🚨🚨🚨BREAKING: We win in Louisiana v. Callais! The Supreme Court has ended Louisiana’s long-running nightmare of federal courts coercing the state to draw a racially discriminatory map. That was always unconstitutional—and this is a seismic decision reaffirming equal protection under our nation’s laws. I vigorously defended our first map and said then that the only way to draw a second majority-minority district was to expressly take race into account. We raised our objections at that time to racial gerrymandering, but the district court and the Fifth Circuit directed us to draw the map anyway. It is gratifying that the Supreme Court has finally vindicated our original position and, in doing so, clarified that only under very narrow circumstances—where there is proof of intentional discrimination—may race be used as a remedy under Section 2. It is frustrating that this has taken five years, millions of dollars, and many lost hours to get here. I will continue to work with the Governor and the Legislature to provide guidance as we move forward to adopt a constitutionally compliant map. #lalege #SCOTUS

There will probably never be a candidate that I 100% agree with. But I support any legal voter's right to vote their choice.

That may be true, but no previous governor has even tried…..and most of them, with the exception of Buddy Roemer, were just thieves….and Buddy couldn’t get squat done because he didn’t fire Edwin’s bureaucracy. There are issues besides tort reform, like the education system, the economy, the overlapping boards, duplicative agencies, no bid contracts and dozens of other things that increase the citizens standard of living. If you’re going to ride 1 horse, you’ll never support any elected official….and that might not be wrong.

I was in Lafayette this weekend for Festival International de Louisiane. It was great to catch up with constituents and enjoy the local musicians who make Louisiana’s culture so special.

Being from Louisiana, I agree. He is, unfortunately, in a corrupt state, especially Orleans Parish. I’ve followed him closely, and IMO he’s doing the best he can in his circumstances. Needed changes, like tort reform, are challenging. The lawyer billboard cartel is very strong. New Orleans, to really make substantive changes, would require marshal law.

Reps in Louisiana have always been nutless sacks of shit, and once their reputation is ruined they just switch parties and do it all over again. This state is an enigma, generationally. A very frustrating place to live if you pay any sort of attention to public policy — both statewide and locally.
