Mark is one of the nicest people in science that I know. In addition to looking up to him when I was doing my postdoc, he generously shared advice and his grant applications with me when I was just starting out my faculty position, and has continued to share materials now.

Second, I'v had a wandering eye all my life. It makes social interactions with new people hard because they don't know what I am looking at. My associated social anxiety causes me to often not want to make eye contact. I am sure this affected my performance in sundry interviews.
