I’m incredibly honored to have been sworn in yesterday to represent Texas’s 18th congressional district, and to have my wife Kaitlyn by my side. I stand on the incredible legacy built by this district, and today I’m ready to get to work.

House Democrats introduced a bill that would pay TSA officers immediately. And end the long lines. But Republicans won’t take it. They want TSA funding to be tied to letting ICE continue terrorizing our communities. This shouldn’t be hard. Pay TSA. Now.

For over 15 months, TX-18 has paid the price of partisan politics surrounding DHS funding. Enough is enough. Our communities deserve better.

It’s been more than 30 days since this partial shutdown began. I joined my colleagues in urging President Trump to sign the discharge agreement and reopen the government.

So many families across TX-18 have lost homes, belongings, and peace of mind to severe storms. With heavy rain and flash flooding being a regular part of life in the district, every minute matters.

Over the weekend, I conducted congressional oversight at a detention facility used by ICE here in TX-18. Our office will continue working to ensure everyone is treated fairly and with dignity.

Power has been restored for most residents impacted by the outages across the district. My office remains in touch with CenterPoint as restoration continues. If you’re still without power, call 713-207-2222 or visit actioncenter.centerpointenergy.com to report an outage.

Many folks in the district woke up without power this morning. My office is in touch with Centerpoint to ensure service is restored as quickly as possible.

Today I got to do something you don’t always get to do in this job: just listen. I sat down with community leaders in Northeast Houston and heard directly from them about what their neighborhoods need: flooding relief, housing, infrastructure, environmental justice, and more.

Had a great time at the Black Family Wellness Day in Acres Homes! Black and Brown communities routinely experience disparities in getting care to address their physical, mental, and maternal health. I’ll be working to do something about it in Congress.

Grateful to have called him a mentor and a friend. I’ll keep working to honor his legacy.

One year ago, we lost a titan in our community, the late Congressman Sylvester Turner. I gave my first floor speech in his honor. He showed up for our communities, was always there when you needed help, and did the work to make people’s lives better.
