The Science Committee had some exciting visitors yesterday!🧑‍🚀 @Astro_Christina, @Astro_Jeremy, @Astro_Reid, and @Astro_VicGlover have captured the attention of the world and spurred inspiration among us all. Their bravery, determination, and ingenuity have made America proud.

I was over the moon meeting the Artemis II mission crew and hearing about their extraordinary journey. As a member of @housescience, it was an honor to thank them for their service and commitment to our nation’s leadership in space.

I’ve spent most of my career relying on science to keep me alive and do amazing things. I know it’s the single most important part of our country’s success in the last century, but Trump doesn’t seem to get that. His retreat from science will hurt us all in the long run.

Trump’s budget proposes devastating cuts to National Science Foundation programs at community colleges that prepare students for careers in STEM. I’ve seen the impact of these NSF grants at Wake Tech, where students are training in AI and automation. I will keep fighting to protect STEM education. ccdaily.com/2026/05/washin…

The Artemis II crew – Reid Weisman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen – captured the hearts, minds, and imaginations of audiences around the world. 🌎🚀🌕 Kids from all backgrounds saw what the Artemis II crew accomplished and are excited about going to space and exploring the far reaches of our solar system. We must use this moment to empower students with the resources they need so they too can one day explore space.

Like so many Americans, I’ll never forget watching Artemis II return to Earth and seeing the look on my kids’ faces as that crew splashed down safely. This mission was a proud moment for our country and for Upstate New York. Right here in Norwich, the hardworking men and women at Unison built the ignition technology that helped carry American astronauts farther into space than ever before. Upstate New York builds what America needs and powers what America achieves — and we always will. It was an honor to meet the Artemis II crew today and celebrate the extraordinary role our region played in this historic mission.

Congress Pushes Back on National Science Board Firings -- The recent firing of the entire National Science Board by the White House is not going down well in Congress. While the immediate impact is on NSF this will result in collateral damage at NASA, NOAA, NIH, NIST, and all other government science activities – just as the Administration says that America needs to dial up its leadership in science. Both House and Senate members have issued simultaneous rejections of this unwarranted action. 🚀 On National Astronaut Day, we celebrate explorers like Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen of Artemis II who inspire us to reach higher. From Neil Armstrong to Artemis and its next chapter of lunar exploration, American leadership in space continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible. I’m proud to support investments in science and innovation so the next generation can keep reaching for the stars.

Projects like Artemis II do not happen overnight; they require years of hard work and investment. If we want America to continue to reach for the stars, we need to reaffirm our commitment to NASA and its mission. Artemis II was a resounding success, and yet the White House is trying to slash NASA’s budget – again. I will fight as hard as I can to reject this proposal once again.

Gutting the National Science Board is another Trump move that will stifle the discoveries which benefit all Americans. I sit on the House Committee on Science, Space & Technology because I know how scientific research improves our lives. I won’t stop fighting against this administration’s war against science.

While the crew of Artemis II returned from their historic visit to space, I had the opportunity to tour the @carnegiescience observatory, which is the birthplace of much of our understanding of our universe. As a member of the Committee on Science and Technology, I am working to bring critical resources to our scientific community so that American can continue to be a world leader in space exploration and crucial scientific research.

The success of Artemis II is a moment of pride for our country, and our community here at home. Our region is a hub for aerospace innovation, and with two Artemis II astronauts having trained at Edwards Air Force Base, this mission reflects the talent and leadership rooted in our area. That is why I am deeply concerned by the administration’s proposed cuts to NASA, which could put our local workforce and America’s leadership in space at risk. WATCH THIS: I just highlighted how the administration’s proposal to gut the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) would put our area at risk.  The administration’s cuts to NOAA’s budget slashes funding for wildfire detection technologies that we use to stay safe. NOAA’s budget is not just numbers on a page; its work saves lives and homes. I’ll keep fighting to protect this critical work.
