Wife and children of deceased Uzbek refugee detained by Turkish police, awaiting deportation
Last year, Uzbek refugee Hasan Umarov died of heart failure whilst being detained in the Repatriation Detention Centre. This time, his wife and children have been detained, and a deportation order has been issued against them.
Lawyer İbrahim Ergin stated that refugee D.S., who has been left alone with her five children, has been unlawfully detained despite having no criminal record.
On the night of the 7th of Ramadan, D.S. was taken into custody by police who came to the home where they lived in Başakşehir. She was then transferred, along with her five children aged between 2 and 12, to the Çatalca İnceğiz Repatriation Centre for deportation.
Lawyer Ergin emphasised that there is no judicial or administrative investigation or warrant against D.S., and noted that although the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management issued a deportation order on the grounds that she “disrupted public order and security,” in reality, no such case exists against her.
