In my current University, it has been a recurrent discussion, how to teach/evaluate programming knowledge in times of AI. My proposal: Public evaluation of students, on stage, being requested to explain and find existing issues over code generated by AI. Thoughts?

@EliasDaler Today, "industry professional" just means it's all about getting promoted. We're left with the same tired articles on repeat: "Cracking the DSA Interview," "System Design for Sounding Smart," and "How I Impacted a Service to Get Promoted."

I'm shocked by the number of really bad blog posts about programming I see when I google stuff. The only good articles I find were written 10-20+ years ago by industry professionals on their personal blogs...

@ossia CS degree? They don't teach you how to actually code for a living. That's why the bootcamp/course industry was booming. Even MIT admits it with their course: 'The Missing Semester of Your CS Education'

If you have money to spend on learning programming, my humble advice is to hire a local CS student to tutor you or pair program and build projects with you. Courses are fine but nothing tops hanging out with a dev and learning from them one-on-one.

@EcZachly This is a story as old as time, and it isn't really about video games at all. You could replace "video games" with surfing, the hobby is irrelevant. It's a fundamental mismatch, someone without their own hobby rarely understands someone who has one.

My ex in 2018 broke up with me because “video games are for losers” Video games are consistently ranked as the least attractive hobby from a woman perspective. This reality of the world sits so weirdly with my lived reality. In 2017, I was 15th in the world in Halo 5. 15th out of 10 million players or the top 0.000015% of that video game. In 2026, my LinkedIn account sits at about the same percentile standing as my Halo 5 account did and makes me millions per year. My strategy to achieve both of these results was exactly the same. Relentless obsession every single day for 3-4 years. I want to be the very best at whatever I put my mind to. Video games are an amazing training ground for competition. Using video games as a tool to build your competitive or creative drive is a powerful thing. Using video games as an escape from reality can be damaging over the long term and this is what women are picking up on Becoming a winner in a low stakes environment makes it easier to become one in a high stakes environment

You should fix that. I've only played the miniatures game once, and it was nothing particularly special. But. One of the things that the vendor did right was that they hired writers who actually knew what they were doing to fill out the background lore. It is surprisingly rich and deep.

I have a confession. I know basically nothing of Warhammer 40k and yet I have lived a full gaming life. Every 40k post I just skip over.
