I am also surprised by the number of conservatives who are like "Why doesn't Canada just fix the fentanyl and illegal immigration problem rather than imposing retaliatory tariffs" and the answer is that this is entirely pretextual. They get more illegal immigrants and fentanyl flowing north than we get flowing south, and if they tried to force us to fix it by slapping tariffs on everything, we'd ... impose retaliatory tariffs.
