Since October 2023, crews replaced 196 bridge structures and more than 12,600 feet of railroad along the 133-year-old Park Avenue Viaduct—all over 28 tightly coordinated weekends while maintaining full Metro-North service. The work took place along a critical corridor carrying 98% of Metro-North trains—approximately 750 trains and 260,000 passengers every day. With the major structural replacement now complete, we asked the project lead how the MTA delivered the work faster and for less without disrupting service.

Memphis is home to Elon Musk’s data center empire — and the polluting turbines xAI uses to power them appear to be making residents sick. Justin Pearson has been leading the fight against them, and is now running for Congress to elevate the fight to protect his community. Pearson is running in a district that Tennessee Republicans just gerrymandered, but in sticking to his progressive working class values, and channeling the rage at xAI's noise, pollution, and lawlessness, he could pull off a historic upset.

Reporter: Isn’t there concern that this slippery slope to socialism inevitably ends up as full-blown communism? AOC: I mean, no. I think that’s very silly. We can’t even raise the minimum wage. Do they really think communism is going to happen? No. They’re trying to scare people because they don’t want us talking about the fact that we all have a right to health care. So they want to call everything they don’t like communist because if people actually wake up to the fact that their elected officials are screwing them over when they get here, they’re going to realize they deserve better and that health care as a right isn’t crazy. They want to call this stuff communist because they don’t want us to realize that the rest of the developed world has guaranteed health care. They want to call it communist because they don’t want you to know that Germany, Italy, the UK, Canada—everybody else—has it better than us, and we spend the most money for the worst care in the developed world.

Rep. @AOC: Ask Peter Thiel, ask Elon Musk, ask Mark Zuckerberg, if they want one of these data centers in their own backyard. I was just in Memphis. All within one block, an xAI greywater treatment plant, methane turbines, coal ash, wastewater facilities. Everyone in that area is getting poisoned. This conversation is not just about technology, it's about people's ability to live without getting cancer.

AOC called out Elon Musk’s Memphis data centers and the turbines he uses to power them, saying: “all these folks are getting sick” and the people profiting “don't have to pitch into the cost at all for the healthcare burdens.”

So I think what people are asking for in their basic protections is not too much to ask ... I think it's not unreasonable for the working class people that we are elected to respond to, to ask questions and to deserve and feel entitled to a response from their elected officials."

If GOP were at all serious about the insider trading issue, they would put it up on its own for a vote. They know adding voter suppression to it will sabotage the effort to ban insider trading. That’s exactly why they’re doing it this way. Don’t fall for it. Spread the word.

Republicans are trying to pull a trick this week. They say we are voting on an “insider trading” bill, but have snuck in massive SAVE Act-style voter suppression measures to it. This is a GOP effort to sabotage national mail-in voting, disguised as a trading ban. I’m voting NO

AOC: An alternative point of consideration here, in terms of New York State’s recent moratorium—the kind of thought that, well, if you don’t want to build in your backyard, then maybe you shouldn’t have access to compute. We could say to the Silicon Valley billionaires who are constructing, pushing, and imposing these data centers on communities that are overwhelmingly rural, disenfranchised, and poor. Ask if they want one of these data centers in their own backyard. Ask any one of us here on this committee. If anyone wants to live right next to one of these centers, please raise your hand.
