I think this is true (also scans with other things Dean has written tbf) Much of computing and the internet is heavily political and viciously contested, but very few in contemporary art, or the music industry for that matter, seem very aware of what goes on. I've never seen wider and more heated debates about art than over the past 5 years. However those debates are centered around crypto tokens, open datasets, LLMs and diffusion models, decentralized databases. There are real stakes around these subjects, but people who are only acclimated to 20th century culture industries, habits and archetypes don't recognize them as such. Art is not boring now, far from it. The art industry, institutions and greater discourse would just do well to catch up with where the action is and participate
