क्या हिन्दू इसीलिए माँस नहीं खाते हैं, क्योंकि माँस प्राप्त करने में हिंसा सम्मिलित है? नहीं! जब यूरोपीय भारत आए, तो उन्होंने हिन्दुओं को इस जगत के सबसे हिंसक और असभ्य लोग पाया। क्यों? क्योंकि हिन्दू बड़ी भारी संख्या में अपने नवजात कन्याओं को मार रहे थे। इसके अलावा बहुत सारे हिन्दू देवी और भैरव को बच्चों की बलि चढ़ा रहे थे। आज भी हिन्दू, चाहे वो किसी भी जाति का हो, अपनी 10% नवजात बेटियों को मार रहे हैं, इसीलिए तो इनका लिंगानुपात 1,000 लड़कों पर मात्र 900 लड़कियाँ हैं। हालाँकि प्रकृति मादाओं को जीने की क्षमता अधिक देती हैं, इसीलिए ईसाई देशों में महिलाओं की संख्या पुरुषों से अधिक हैं। अब आप ही सोचो कि जो लोग अपने ही बच्चों को मारने और बलि चढ़ाने का कार्य करते हैं, उनके हृदय में कितनी दया होगी? उनका अहिंसा में कितना विश्वास होगा? तो फिर हिन्दू माँस क्यों नहीं खाते हैं? क्योंकि वैष्णव आचरण में माँस को अपवित्र और तामसिक भोजन माना गया है। यानी माँस ritually impure है। जैसे हिन्दुओं के लिए भंगी ritually polluted है, उसी भाँति माँस भी ritually polluted हैं। इसीलिए तो बहुत सारे हिन्दू माँसाहारी होते हुए भी मंगलवार को, एकादशी को, श्रावण मास में, इत्यादि माँस नहीं खाते हैं। यह ही कारण है कि दक्षिण भारतीय दलित भी माँस पकाने के लिए पृथक बर्तन रखते हैं। अहिंसा वाली बकवास ब्रिटिश काल में आई, ताकि गोरे ईसाइयों के सामने अपने आपको तार्किक बना सके।
