The first episode of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy was originally broadcast on this day in 1979. This BBC2 screening was swiftly followed by a two part omnibus repeat on BBC1 during Christmas 1979.

@DavidKeiser12 I really enjoyed it. The early years are a bit of a steep climb, but once he's out of school it really picks up speed.

Finally started reading this last night & I'm really enjoying it so far. This is supposed to be the be all end all biography of Fleming, so I'm excited to see how Shakespeare accomplishes this & what new information on Fleming he uncovered.

As I wrote my book, I kept reminding myself of Emperor Augustus’s maxim, festina lente—make haste slowly. Almost there…May 2025 with @OUPHistory @OUPAcademic

@bram_kawa @spybrary @tomrobsmith So I've heard. And agreed on The Snowman. Have you seen Folding Ideas's video on that film and its horrific editing?

@SecondTerm @spybrary @tomrobsmith I've read the first book and, a few qualms about the ending excepted, thought it terrific. The film, however - avoid like the plague. One of the worst adaptations of a good book I have ever seen, comparable only to what they did to Jo Nesbo's The Snowman.

@SpyHards Amazing timing! It's been a minute since I last saw this film, so I downloaded it to my tablet for the flight to Vegas:

@SpyHards One of my favorite films of all time, and McTiernan's commentary track on the DVD is a masterclass in all things filmmaking and storytelling. Wish like hell they'd do a 4K special edition but I'm sure we'll never see it. Love this movie so, so much.

@DawnCoffey86 @DavidHughesTwit Agreed, no way it's Brad. Maybe by the early 90s it could have passed as Brad In His Robert Redford Phase, but in 87? No way.

No Way Out (1987) was filmed in the spring of 1986. Brad Pitt was 22. People say he was an extra in the film, because there's a guy who looks like Brad Pitt behind Kevin Costner in the (second) party scene. But the picture on the right shows Brad Pitt in 1987 So... #IsItBrad?

@spybrary I'd never heard of the Charlie Muffin books until the news about Brian Freemantle's passing, so I'll be giving those a try this month.
