How Raoul Peck Became a Cinematic Griot
The Haitian filmmaker has spent 40 years using the archives to combat historical erasure and to highlight the people’s version of the past.

@MkPaxson @The_Fredwords Except Dune...but then again the 1980s version😬
I think we are going to see a LOT more adaptations in the coming years because Hollywood is obviously running out of ideas.
English

@The_Fredwords @ShonMapp This all gets to the stupid question of "what did the author mean?" Who knows? The beauty of books is that they are open to interpretation and, yes, all too frequently the director's version sucks.
English

@The_Fredwords We consume and process media differently, the writers and directors often have completely unique visions. Toni Morrison's Beloved is another example. If you didn't read the book, there's no way that movie will make any sense.
I'll check out Train Dreams
English

@ShonMapp For me you've just described Train Dreams. The film didn't work in ways I couldnt articulate, & since it was one my favorite novelists (Denis Johnson) I read the book immediately after. It was clear after a few pages the script missed the *entire* point. An epic swing-and-a-miss.

@ShonMapp Some time back a spammer decided I would click on his links if he promised "bespoke tailoring." I definitely hear what you're saying, I don't hate the word conceptually but it lands, sound-wise, with a weird thud. There's a street curb between the two syllables somehow.
English

I just realized that people barely use the word "bespoke" anymore. Ngl, I hate the word. But, conceptually we need those creations.

i know you can't change the minds of people who were never going to care about art and human works made with love and soul and care, but gosh it sucks just how many do not give even a little bit of a fuck.

@SDDonovan I've noticed some of the newer litmags prefer IG over twitter. Then again, social media is a challenge for me.
