Finally, after twenty days, my sister called. When I picked up the phone, I could only cry. It felt as if someone was calling from the afterlife. She said the internet had just come back on, and only now she was seeing the images and the scale of this crime online. The story of my sister, dearer to me than my own life: “Sister, do something… please, for God’s sake, do something. Don’t leave us alone. Darya, they’ve killed everyone. I was beaten too, I’m covered in bruises. I personally know four people who were killed, but everyone knows someone who has been murdered. Old and young, a man with a cane, even religious people… everyone had come. Qeytarieh was overflowing with people. Sister, don’t cry… listen to me… they put the bodies in black bags, stacking them on top of each other so families can come and identify them. They still find people who are breathing. Sister… they’ve started the executions…” Beeeeep… The call was cut off. Our phone was being monitored; calling back was no longer possible. They didn’t let her speak for more than three minutes. Three minutes that took my soul with them. World, hear their voices. Their voices come out of our throats. Hear their voices! And I say to the Islamic Republic: Do not touch my family and my fellow countrymen. Stay away from the lives of our people. We are countless. The time of your end has come.
