Two Tembisa SAPS Officers Arrested for Smuggling Drugs into Boksburg Prison
Two sergeants from the Tembisa Police Station have been arrested after allegedly attempting to smuggle 82 Mandrax tablets and dagga into the Boksburg Correctional Centre.
Sergeant Mathema Doctor Matlala (43) and Sergeant Lebohang Phillip Madisha (41) were stopped during a routine vehicle search at the prison entrance shortly after 09h30 on Wednesday. The officers, who regularly perform court duties including the transportation of detainees, were traveling in a marked white SAPS vehicle. One was in uniform; the other was in civilian clothes.
A correctional services official discovered a blue plastic bag containing the drugs hidden under a seat. Both men were immediately placed under arrest.
They are expected to appear in court in the coming days.
