I've been using react for a while now. The number of times I've started down a path without using redux only to end up adding redux to an existing project... Let's just say it happens consistently with every project lol!! I need to start with redux. So silly adding it later 😂

Last but not least, I could spin up my own engine. But given my susceptibility to burnout I will not risk it. I haven't decided which I'll choose. In fact, I think I'll bounce around. Either way, I just wanted to word-vomit my thoughts and share some unknown engines.

One that really caught my eye is Babylon.js. Using it in conjunction with other JavaScript libraries and frameworks really gives it quite the edge. Making games for mobile would be a bit tricky using React Native instead of React. It would be cool to get Next.js in there too.

I've been using Unity since 2010. I basically put all my eggs in one basket. Early on I tried out multiple engines. But as time went on I stuck with Unity primarily. This announcement is saddening. Even if they backpedal... I still lost my trust in them...

Today we announced a change to our business model which includes new additions to our subscription plans, and the introduction of a Runtime fee. We wanted to provide clarifying answers to the top questions most of you are asking. Yes, this is a price increase and it will only affect a small subset of current Unity Editor users. Today, a large majority of Unity Editor users are currently not paying anything and will not be affected by this change. The Unity Runtime fee will not impact the majority of our developers. The developers who will be impacted are generally those who have successful games and are generating revenue way above the thresholds we outlined in our blog. This means that developers who are still building their business and growing the audience of their games will not pay a fee. The program was designed specifically this way to ensure developers could find success before the install fee takes effect. We want to be clear that the counter for Unity Runtime fee installs starts on January 1, 2024 - it is not retroactive or perpetual. We will charge once for a new install; not an ongoing perpetual license royalty, like revenue share. We looked for ways to lessen the impact on developers, and provide ways to bring the Runtime fee to zero. If you’re using any of our ad products, Unity Gaming Services or cloud services, etc. please contact us to discuss discounts. We are actively listening to and following your questions closely. I feel like I've messed up my "For You" algorithm on X. I've got so many wannabe influencers in my feed and no actual substance in the posts. Engaging in those posts to try to boost myself has backfired... So now I have to go out of my way to find actual content.

Having competing offers will help with negotiation. But it still feels like a whole different vibe with jobs and expectations of total compensation. So much competition out there since many people are looking for work

Got a verbal offer for a job recently. Kind of wild that there is no clear way to know what is an accurate compensation range. levels.fyi isn't 100% foolproof. 2021 was a market bubble 2022 & early 2023 had layoffs Kind of a mystery...

Got an email asking about why their sheep from my cube world pack were pink. Small textures get compressed by default in Unreal. I've increased the resolution of the atlas to solve this, otherwise you can just adjust your compression settings. Thanks for understanding. #gamedev
