Yeah. Things are a lot different now. On every front. It was my 2nd year at Georgia Tech before we even knew that lie angles could be adjusted. The first video of my swing I ever saw was a Polaroid sequence. Golf Channel didn’t exist and we had no clue about golf history, golf course architecture or the architects (except Donald Ross), grass, or equipment. We didn’t have Google to look anything up. Instruction was handed down by word of mouth and was basically just hitting balls all day long between 2x4’s aimed down the middle of the range until it “felt right.” We copied the best players when we saw them on TV, at a tournament, or in Golf Digest. My teacher was Master PGA Professional Dean Alexander. We had a great time playing, practicing, and discovering what works. We are close to this day. In college, my coach was Puggy Blackmon. He was really early with all kinds of video capture and other technology. We thought that stuff was crazy talk. But he wasn’t the crazy one. I learned a lot from Bob Rotella who basically invented sports psychology. Amazing man. I got to be friends with Gary McCord and @PeterKostis Those 2 are extremely under rated and under appreciated in the contributions they made to the game. Cutting edge in instruction and making golf fun for so many of us. They are quick witted and highly intelligent. Influenced so many. And both helped my in many ways I can never repay. I hate how they were unceremoniously thrown to the side. But it’s a different time. I’m grateful for my ride. Not bitter or angry. I’m glad that so many people are engaged with golf on so many levels. From The Masters to TGL and everything in between. There are many ways to consume and participate. Let’s just not forget where we came from and who helped us get here. I know there are lots of challenges in golf, but it still remains the best sport on the planet. And golf is much more than the professional game. It changes lives through charity, social engagement, and physical activity. It helps vets, kids, seniors, disabled, and many others. It’s riding rapidly into the future and I’m happy for it. I was so fortunate to have a front row seat in my time at Golf Channel. In particular, in my role as co-host of Morning Drive. I got to interview the brightest and most entertaining and talented folks from every part of golf. I learned so much from so many. However you participate, just be respectful of the course, other golfers, the game, and the staff members serving you and maintaining the facilities. Golf is Good. Let’s all work to keep it that way.

@Paul_A_Payne @ChattanoogaGolf @IfYouLikeGolf As the one and only Rules Official for the Cup( I came cheap), I saw zero infractions, and only issued 1 Warning! That Warning was to one of the professional teams , who I had to tell to “play better”. Pros get strokes next time!!😂
