I played in the British Open in 1988. BTW that’s what we called it back then. At this point I’m not sure what it’s called. I was a 20 year old amateur scared out of my mind. Got paired with @BradFaxon (he’s awesome by the way)The first hole at Royal Lytham and St Annes is a par 3. Grandstands around the green. Wind howling. I was shaking to my core. (I had a core at that point). Miraculously I hit a 6-iron to 18 feet. Putt was level. Cup out on the left. I came up 4 feet short. Left the next one a foot short. I took a divot with the 1 footer for bogey. It stopped on the lip and the wind pushed it in for a solid 4. I shot 83. Came back with a 77 in the 2nd round. Somehow, 160 missed the cut. HOWEVER….I managed to tie @MarkCalc ! He won the next year. So I’ve got that going for me.
