The fact we haven't been able to consolidate really good passages of the game, but also to go on and score more goals and continue to attack. That's not the tactical instruction we give the players. We don't want to go 1-0 up and change to a mentality of defending, but we've done it, so I can't say it hasn't happened. But then if you are going to defend, we have to defend better than we did. It’s the stat every Newcastle fan was dreading acknowledging, but we’ve officially hit a grim milestone. Sven Botman has now missed over 500 days of action due to injury since arriving at St. James' Park!
When he’s on the pitch, there is zero debate: he is a rolls-royce of a defender. Calm, aerially dominant, and arguably one of the best technical center-backs in the league. But as the old saying goes, "the best ability is availability," and right now, the treatment room is seeing more of Sven than the Gallowgate End is.
🤕 No player wants to get injured of course but is he becoming the new Jonathan Woodgate?
The comparisons are starting to feel eerily accurate. Like Woodgate back in 2003, Botman has:
🌍 World-Class Talent: A ceiling that could see him start for any club in Europe.
👮 Natural Authority: The ability to transform the entire defensive line just by being present.
⛓️💥 The "Glass" Factor: An injury record that makes it impossible for the manager to build a consistent long-term partnership around him.
Jonathan Woodgate was arguably the most naturally gifted defender of his generation, but his body simply couldn't keep up with his talent. We are desperately hoping Botman isn't headed down that same "what if" path.

Despite the humiliation against Sunderland, the board is backing Eddie Howe—for now. But make no mistake, a massive "rebuild" is coming to St James' Park this summer.
Here is the state of play at Newcastle United, according to the iPaper:
1. The Managerial Stance 🤝
Eddie retains the support of Ross Wilson and David Hopkinson. The hierarchy appreciates him 'fronting up' to fans, but the message is clear: the current 12th-place standing is unacceptable. It’s a 'crossroads,' not the end of the road.

2. The Great Exodus 🛫
Prepare for a busy departure lounge. Up to 7 players could leave:
Veterans: Kieran Trippier & Fabian Schar expected to depart as their contracts wind down.
Loans: Aaron Ramsdale will NOT be signed permanently.
Out of Favor: Joe Willock is available for transfer.
The "Crown Jewels": Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali, and Tino Livramento are all attracting serious interest. The club may sell to reinvest.
