Cutting down more healthy, mature, street #trees is not the way to conserve, restore and grow our city's #UrbanForest or reverse the #canopy loss trend in #Cleveland .

We want authenticity not greenwashing. We want local tree advocacy led by Clevelanders, not by suburban led organizations such as the Cleveland Tree Coalition, CTC We want a city owned urban forestry plan, not the CTC’s coalition plan. We want a soccer team that walks the talk and has actual trees in its stadium plan, unlike their current site renderings that do not have any trees on them

Come on you trees! 🌲 Forest City isn't nostalgia. It's a declaration. Cleveland earned that name once; we named our club after the charge to earn it again. So we're doing the work: figuring out where a soccer club fits meaningfully in a greener Cleveland. Not as a side project. As the point.

Cleveland’s new professional men’s soccer club unveiled its identity today as Forest City Cleveland. Forest City Cleveland, part of Cleveland Soccer Group, will begin play in MLS NEXT Pro in 2027.

Protecting Cleveland’s remaining mature trees in our neighborhoods and parks is our priority and should be city council’s as well. Let’s also be honest and truthful and “disclose” the projects council approves that further diminish our tree canopy. For example, several acres of urban forest on the west side were cut down for a paved path was also funded by Cleveland City Council. With more to come too! The careless approval of projects like this that destroy 100s of trees must stop.

Reality? We cut down our #UrbanForests in #Cleveland to enhance the #HeatIslandEffect, increase #airpollution, and reduce #CarbonCapture. Like this one in Cleveland’s West Park neighborhood, several acres of urban forest cut down for a paved trail funded by @CityofCleveland. Want to make a real #ClimateImpact @Climate_AF ? Seek candidates that protect our existing #TreeCanopy too.

We have a long ways to go. @CityofCleveland 's Old Lorain Connector (paved) trail project clear cut hundreds of mature trees in #Cleveland's Kamms Corner neighborhood. This should help enhance the city's #HeatIsland effect , add #AirPollution and further reduce the local #TreeCanopy rate.

1/ Today is the first day of Air Quality Awareness Week #AQAW2025. At the recent @OurMayors conference, I had the privilege of interviewing Mayor @JustinMBibb bout how - and why - he's addressing air pollution in Cleveland.

Plus, people do not thrive when we clear cut our publicly owned urban forests for development. For example, hundreds of healthy, mature trees were recently cut down to make way for the Old Lorain Connector Trail for development. @CityofCleveland is a partner along with others. We are not against the benefits paved trails for connectivity may provide . See photos. However, what is the cost of projects like this on our tree canopy? 1200 tree plantings citywide only slows the decline in Cleveland’s tree canopy rate when our own government deforests its parklands.

CTC is run by suburbanites. 11/12 of CTC’s board members reside outside our city along with their executive director. Most partners are large institutions and national organizations. It’s time for for Cleveland’s tree coalition to be inclusive, make neighborhood tree groups partners and be led by Cleveland residents.

@arborday In @CityofCleveland change is the sound of saws. Recently, hundreds of mature trees were clear cut in an urban forest to make way for @clevemetroparks paved Old Lorain Connector Trail. We can plant trees but lets value our existing mature trees too.
