Sixty-one years ago, a group of courageous men and women crossed a bridge in Selma, Alabama to make the promise of our nation real. Today, we remember that day as “Bloody Sunday.” Few can speak more eloquently about the events of that day than President Obama did 11 years ago.

Crime is down because mayors, police, community leaders, and fed partners are working in tandem. And that cooperation needs to continue happening no matter who is in the White House. #SOTU

Today marks a historic step forward for our city. The City of Cleveland and the United States Department of Justice have jointly filed a motion to conclude the Consent Decree and transition to full local accountability for the Cleveland Division of Police.

Stephanie Tubbs Jones broke through glass ceilings in Ohio: becoming the state's first Black woman elected to Congress in 1998 & first Black woman county prosecutor in 1991. She's remembered for her personal warmth, sharp mind, & abiding commitment to hometown. RIP Congresswoman.

This #PresidentsDay, I’m thinking about how fortunate I was to observe a future president up close. Nearly 20 years ago, I interned for then U.S. Senator Barack Obama. He gave me advice I’ll carry with me forever: “You should aim to do something… not just be anything.”

In his 102 years, Robert P. Madison has seen a lot. He fought racism to get into Case’s architecture school & founded Ohio’s first Black-owned architecture firm. His iconic work ranges from the Great Lakes Science Center to the U.S. Embassy in Senegal. #BlackHistoryMonth

Today, I had the honor of signing Tanisha’s Law. Legislation that creates a new bureau within our Division of Emergency Medical Services to lead non-police crisis response efforts and deploy trained mental health professionals and social workers to respond to appropriate calls.

From showing up for our scholars at @CLEMetroSchools to giving back to our kids year after year, @dariusgarland22 has always led with heart. Wishing you nothing but success in LA. Cleveland will always be home, my brother. 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
