@aoki244uver It's obstruction and it's completely undeniable. Whether it was on the inside or outside, I am not sure of. If it was inside, then it's a clear cut penalty.

@254lyt @nazzobetweeting Well that's not true, we have people facing restrictions here as well, BUT, nowhere near as much as you do. Just wanted to point out that we're not by default restriction free to go to the US from here either.

I love America, but I hate to burst your bubble: if you are on Twitter, and you are getting posts about how Europeans visiting for the World Cup are completely in awe of American food and grocery stores— I have to be honest with you and tell you you are being fed complete nonsense by the algorithm. I’ve traveled to almost every European country, and there isn’t a single one which doesn’t have better grocery stores and higher-quality restaurant food than the USA. Just being honest, as a doctor should

Let's get the obvious out of the way first, if he finishes that strike with the foot, he breaks the guys foot at the bare minimum, probably his ankle. The contact Messi does have displaces how he puts his foot down into the pitch, which is by far the worst part of this situation, however, that is accidental, not intentional. The reason it's not a red, but a crystal clear yellow and why so many are fooled is because of the point of contact. It looks gruesome, we can all agree on that. When you, however, study what actually happens, the second Messi feels contact, he retracts his foot, meaning he had no power in it, because you're not stopping that momentum out of balance if you're using power. There is no malice, there is no real chance of danger because he is not following through with the tackle and the tackle has no power. It does NOT meet the criteria for a red card. It's not overly aggressive, proven by the fact he retracts his foot when he feels contact in a position he is out of balance in, there is no recklessness to it for the same reason. You also can not predict a opponents physical movement at all times and accidents do happen, this is one of those cases. Same people that claim this is a red, do not even understand that the power of your punch doesn't even come from your arms, so the chances people understand this is probably 0-none, but for those that care about real facts, that's why he didn't get a red in this situation and VAR can not go back and give yellows.

It's not reckless, because he controls the impact and it's not overly aggressive due to the same reason, it doesn't put his opponent at risk of harm because he doesn't follow through. It does not meet any criteria for a red, crystal clear yellow, yes, but VAR is not allowed to give those due to VAR checks.

@WhateverTIS @cfcsimv2 Intent doesnt really matter anymore according to the rules, player safety does. So even if it was by mistake, this is arguably a red as it breaks in on that safety.

Yes do you understand why? Do you know or even comprehend the difference between reckless and not? If he(Messi) comes into that tackle with a follow through with his foot he breaks the guys foot that is misplaced on the pitch and that's best case scenario. The fact he retracts his foot, proves no malice intent, no danger and nothing being overly aggressive, it doesn't satisfy the criteria for a red card. The reason someone can be sent off without contact is they come at 100mph into a tackle studs first, which qualifies as red because it satisfies the criteria for red: a tackle needs to be reckless, it doesn't need to hit to be reckless.
