In graduate school, I got to know Tony Schwartz and spent some time with him in his studio. Tony’s book “the responsive chord” is still one of the most important books in political communication. “Daisy” is his most famous ad, but “close the door” will forever be my favorite.

Salaries for City Managers and other govt agencies are out of whack. It’s not a statement critical of the excellent work many of them do. It’s just hard for me to rally behind making $250k, $400k+ in taxpayer $ with 2-4 months paid time off.

Announcements also speak to the character and organizational might of presidential campaigns. Sometimes we put too much emphasis on things that don’t matter (Tim Scott’s awkward yelps), but when something this poorly thought out goes this haywire it says a lot about the candidate

I’m so saddened by the passing of my wonderful friend Tina Turner.
She was truly an enormously talented performer and singer. She was inspiring, warm, funny and generous. She helped me so much when I was young and I will never forget her.
