I still think about the time I found out this lady at church was legally married. Never seen or heard of a husband before and he is obv. not a part of her life and with a WHOLE nother family. And she’s like “but in God’s eyes we’re still married. I’m waiting for him.”

I remember when Soul Plane leaked six months before its release. The first-time director tried to convince MGM to just put it out early, but they waited—and by the time it hit theaters, so many people had already seen it that it flopped. He never got another studio film after that.
My agent at the time even said, “It’s too bad your people don’t support Black movies.” I fired her on the spot. Soul Plane did become a cult classic and I get residuals still to this day.

Those places can feel like time capsules for your memories. When they are altered, when businesses shut down, when that place is built over etc., it is another reminder that life will continue moving on without them.
