Congratualtions to my co-authors @_aparicioC @NobregaFL @StanBrouns @davidwtaylorjr. This was the first project I took on in the @davidwtaylorjr lab, and I'm really proud of the combination of cryo-EM, biochemistry and in vivo work we used to understand this fascinating system

Excited to share the final version of our DISARM story! How can bacterial confer incredibly broad antiphage immunity and yet avoid immunity? We think the answer may be due in part to DNA structural context and other mechanisms for cryptic specificity. nature.com/articles/s4146…

In eukaryotes, Argonautes (eAgos) are well known for their role in RNA-guided RNA interference. Prokaryotes encode Agos (pAgos) but lack other RNAi components. Instead, certain 'long' pAgos use DNA guides to target and cleave invading DNA such as plasmids and viruses. 2/11
