I used to think very diff, but something always felt a bit off about handing out slips of paper telling ppl God loves them. I didn't need that to find God

I grew up going to church (Southern Baptist) but as I got older, I have realized two things: 1) Some of the most judgemental people on this planet are avid church goers 2) I feel closer to God when I am out in nature and am able to actually have conversations with him Anyone else feel this way?

Used to feel like a safe space, but i see social media posts of 'church goers' and church is currently not for me b/c I like authenticity and integrity

There's a lot of different churches out there. It's worth looking around a bit for these benefits - which are both real, and important - not just to the world, but to the actual mission of Christianity. I don't know you well enough to recommend a denomination - and even within denominations, there's a lot of differences between churches.

@James_West_PhD @JesterJum I have found reading the bible w/o being told what lens to read it through is important. Don't think it's wrong to do 'church' in ways that don't involve 'superficial Sunday talk'. I find some of the most superficial convos happen within a church, depending on the church.

@James_West_PhD @JesterJum "You have neither community nor the ability to engage in good works without a church." - false (community and doing good for a community is not only w/i church walls); a 'well done' sermon is super subjective and there are plenty of ways to be inspired, including personal study.
