إِنَّا لِلَّٰهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un. With deep sorrow and grief, we inform the sad demise of NoorDin Banday (Noor Mam) of Banday Mohalla Handwara. A great soul he was not just a family but a great @JKPCOfficial loyalist too. His commitment, warmth, and unwavering support will always be remembered. He stood by us through our thick and thin, a constant pillar of strength. This is truly a personal loss. May Almighty grant him highest ranks of Jannat Ul Firdous.

This is a new low. The accidental deputy CM disdainfully and distastefully mocked at and made fun of NC legislator @Drveeri sahib’s emotional moments in the assembly yesterday. I have my differences with Dr Veeri. But as a human being, I hold him on high esteem. And at a personal level, not at a political level I take exception to this shameless behaviour. The Deputy CM is a habitual offender and has now become an embarrassment for the Legislative Assembly. His alleged autonomy to abuse and embarrass is not too strategic to not be deciphered. In 2019 everything was taken away from us. And punitive measures were taken against the people of J and K in the name of law and order. Telephone networks were barred. Curfew was imposed for days. Most of the political leaders were jailed. I was jailed too. @Drveeri was jailed too. Have seen him go through lot of stress in the jail. And it seems that Deputy CM is a gift our CM sahib has given to the people of J and K for enduring hardships, for Five years, post 2019. This deputy CM actually needs a serious coaching session in basic manners. Legislative courtesy and propriety would have demanded immediate sacking. But that would be expecting too much. Hope CM sahib shows some humility and intervenes to end this non stop embarrassment

CM sahib allowed the introduction of private member bill. The government didn’t oppose it. The bill pertains to land. More specifically about extending the leases on government land that have expired. The bill pertains to some of the costliest real estate in Kashmir, worth I would guess about 70000 to one lakh crores. Or maybe even much more. And no prizes for guessing. It is aimed to help the super elite of Kashmir. May I ask what is in it for the poorest of the poor. Lakhs of poor families who have built houses on 2 Marlas or 3 Marlas or at the most a kanal. They continue to persecuted on a daily basis. They are as helpless as they have been for decades. Do they don’t deserve a bill. I am not opposed to the bill per se. But it the super elite only who have to benefit. May I ask some questions. I asked them in Assembly. Never got an answer. What is the total land in Kanals that belongs to the government and has been leased out. What is the lease amount that they have been paying till date.

Deeply saddened by the demise of Mohd Sultan War sahib of Batergam. My sincere condolences to the bereaved family. He was a respected soul and father of noted journalist @YahyaSultan_ May Allah bless him with Jannat ul Firdous and give strength to his loved ones.

In the context of the JKAS results. Only one person has been selected from the Kashmir division under the EWS category. Two most important indicators of EWS, are souls living below poverty line, officially identified under two categories viz. (Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) + Priority Households (PHH). These are however not used to determine EWS status for recruitment or admissions. The number of souls in the Below Poverty Line Category (Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) + Priority Households (PHH)) in Kashmir Valley exceeds that in Jammu. As per official data of J&K Government, 37.71 lakh such population is in Kashmir and 29.81 lakh in Jammu. AAY are the poorest of the poor while PHH covers families which were earlier called BPL. The government, in response to my questions in the second and fourth sessions of the Assembly respectively, revealed that only 7.7% and 8.6% of certificates issued under EWS category were from Kashmir. Both sets of data are from official sources. So when you define poverty(EWS) for the department of food supplies, government has a different definition. And when you define poverty(EWS) for recruitment and admissions, government has a different definition. Of the nine candidates selected under the Economically Weaker Section Category (EWS) in the recent Combined Entrance Examination combined to recruitment for recruitment to JKAS and other services only ONE is from Kashmir. And it is not surprising. Incidentally the predictions made in the presentation that I had prepared on reservations almost overlap. We had predicted 2/10 and result is 1/9. The problem lies in the criteria for granting these certificates. While almost all BPL population in Kashmir falls within the income criteria for issuing these certificates, the asset-related conditions, especially the size of the residential house and residential plot ensures exclusion of Kashmiris from the EWS category. Why cannot the government remove asset-related criteria? It can be done and has been done by several states. An expert set-up by the Government of India on December 01, 2021 favoured the removal of exclusion based on family residential assets. It is grave injustice with people of Kashmir. We have 5. 09 lakh BPL souls in Srinagar, 5. 21 lakh in Kupwara 5. 79 lakh in Baramulla and 5. 76 lakh in Anantnag. The EWS certificates could have been a major confidence building measure for old city Srinagar, old town Baramulla, Anantnag , Budgam parts of Sopore etc awhose inhabitants have been left out of the developmental process for decades. It is time to study what states like Rajasthan and Kerala have done. If they have done away with asset-related conditions, why cannot we. I request the CM sahib to look into the matter. This is not something which should be delayed. There is no excuse for delay. Every recruitment process without corrections means injustice. This correction is overdue. All the reservations are heavily tilted towards Jammu. This particular category is tilted towards Jammu because of government norms, not because Kashmir is rich and Jammu is poor

The JKAS statistically results endorse almost every single word that I uttered on behalf of my party, in the Assembly. I had given statistical presentations earlier on the Facebook. The statistical projections almost overlap. The single biggest problem in reservations still remains in not understanding the structural issues. I will repeat, it is a problem of regional imbalance, perpetuated by an extremely unfair and biased reservation policy. As long as we do not properly diagnose the disease and accept the disease as it exists, no remedy is possible. There are some imperatives if there has to be a way forward. First, a government with some spine. Second, a government which can use the resources and information at its disposal to conduct research and examine and analyse the empirical evidence. They can do a scientific comparative analysis and come up with data backed conclusions detailing which region has been wronged. Governments especially in trying times like when we are a UT, can’t base their recommendations on gossip. Third, a government and a polity which has the intellectual capability to understand the inherent structural imbalances, based on regionalism.

Strongly condemn the cowardly attack on Dr. Farooq Abdullah Sahib at a wedding function in Jammu. I sincerely hope those responsible are identified and held accountable & I pray for the safety, health & well being of Farooq Sahib. Dy. CM Surinder Chowdary Ji & Nasir Aslam Sb who were accompanying Farooq sb are also safe.

I am getting calls from scared parents who are panicking and dreading the prospect of their children staying further in Iran. There seems to be continuous bombardment. And the buildings that they have been shifted to are as unsafe and vulnerable as the buildings they have been moved from. I don’t know why pro active action in evacuation by the GOI seen in the past is missing now. We have the example of Ukraine. It is my humble appeal to @PMOIndia @HMOIndia @DrSJaishankar to please do what it takes to get the students and other citizens of India stranded in Iran, back to safety to their homes. After Almighty Allah, the only place in the world where they can seek help and where they deserve to be helped, is their government. I am not being critical. But much more needs to be done. The government is the custodian of all the citizens, living or working or studying in any part of the world. And it is the right of those citizens to be helped and assisted when they get stuck in the middle of a violent conflict. Imagine the plight of the stranded students, who are literally counting moments and unsure about the longevity of the moments. And imagine the plight of parents who are helplessly watching and dreading every moment. @OfficeOfLGJandK

Non point scoring. But a humble request to CM sahib @OmarAbdullah I was watching a video clip of Deputy CM sahib visiting some office, with cameras in full attendance. I could see him admonishing the officers for whatever reason, I don’t know. Please can you ask him to stop broadcasting these events. The officers are members of the society. Someone is a father, a brother, a neighbour, a friend. Imagine when they return home. What will their loved ones ask them and what will they answer them. This is Nothing short of mental trauma for the entire family. This disdainful behaviour has to stop. Does he have a licence to humiliate people and embarrass them. Let him go and do what he wants. Please stop the broadcast. This is a shame for the society that we live in. And nothing short of molestation of our polity. Stop humiliating employees . And for heaven’s sake Stop the shameless broadcast of that humiliation.

Deeply saddened by the demise of Adv. Makhan Lal Thusoo, a respected senior & my colleague during my law practice at District Court Kupwara. Hailing from our very own Main Town Kupwara, he was known for his integrity, wisdom & humility. His guidance and presence will always be remembered. Heartfelt condolences to his family. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

The FB and Instagram handles of some media institutions have been blocked. Most of them are responsible, mature institutions and include GK, Kashmir Life and Rising Kashmir. Their absence will do more harm. At times it has been seen that space vacated by responsible institutions can be filled by unknown entities, further harming the cause of a free and responsible media. The administration should unblock the handles.
