the more i use linear algebra, the more convinced i am that university mathematics is sort of broken? spending more time on geometric intuitions of things like SVD would be way more useful than just rote learning how to calculate eigenvalues.

@BarberotTeresa @BayouPhilosophy There's a lot of good advice, meal plans, blog posts, etc out there about transitioning from a carcinogenic meat-based diet to a fulfilling plant-based diet so you don't do just that. It's not impossible just because you did it wrong on your first try. That's ok. You can do it.

Actually you are wrong. It's spatial spectrum of wavelengths of visible light. Each type of receptor in the retina of an eye has it's spectral sensitivity curve, typically (unless mutations) 3 color cones and one rod. Final subjective perception is constructed by feeding all receptor output signals into our brain neural network which then perceives a color. Meaning and name of a color is learned.

@martinrev21 What are you talking about? QOL is absolutely a reason a person may move, whether between cities or between countries. There's no sense in saying otherwise.

There are lots of reasons for mass immigration, but your quality of life, or responsible ecological custodianship, ... are not among them.

No one in the entire US has a better support system than drivers who kill people. While bodies are still warm, police and local officials will offer excuses — without evidence. Other drivers will blame victims, speculating that they deliberately stepped in front of the driver.

@DKThomp @Timodc Housing is a weird consumer good, in that it's seen as both an investment and a depreciable, maintenance-intensive piece of machinery, all at the same time.

Austin is building housing like crazy. Rents are down 7%. But rather than frame this achievement as a win for renters—or for the arg that housing prices respond to supply growth—WSJ frames it pretty clearly as bad news across the board.

@DKThomp A housing market is not "hot" because prices are high, but rather when buy/selling is high, which happens when you add development to a hot area and more people move in. Pretty awful headlining from WSJ

More labs came back. I very likely have Lyme disease as well. But I can’t tolerate the antibiotics for it because of my severe MCAS. I feel so trapped, depressed, sad, so so scared.
