Every book published from 2023 onwards, unfortunately, gets this question. I cannot see it not result in fewer book sales for new authors (likely not hurting established ones as much) - or perhaps fewer book sales, globally. No one wants to pay for stuff generated by an LLM.

AI generated content (and now; products) is everywhere and we probably don’t notice half of them. And it’s still early days. AI is a speedrun on many things we’ve seen before: for example, trust plummeting with commerce platforms that do not vet products (if they are even real)

@eevee This could probably be solved with explicit clauses on open-source licenses, if you allow someone to train models on your code.

github copilot has, by their own admission, been trained on mountains of gpl code, so i'm unclear on how it's not a form of laundering open source code into commercial works. the handwave of "it usually doesn't reproduce exact chunks" is not very satisfying
