Current situation South Africa, a geographically large country with a rural population of millions of people. Many areas don't even have a cellphone signal, let alone internet. I’ve seen firsthand how discriminatory BEE policies can be. I met Afrikaners who were required to train their replacements, only to be let go because they are white. No American company should be forced to comply with racist laws like this. @elonmusk is right, President Ramaphosa is being dishonest.

In 2017 the @Our_DA delegation travelled to Israel and met with @netanyahu and @Isaac_Herzog — both now responsible for the genocide in Gaza. They stood shoulder-to-shoulder, arms around each other, smiling. Could this be why @geordinhl is reluctant to call out the Israel for the treatment of the Palestinians? He didn't just serve during the apartheid era. He was a key protagonist in the transition to democracy, often a measured voice in the heated atmosphere AND became Minister of Constitutional Affairs in Mandela's 1994 cabinet. He clashed bitterly with FW De Klerk and cautioned against his party, the NP, walking away from the Government of National Unity. He left the NP over this. So he is not just ONE thing. Tsek with that framing. You CAN write "served during South Africa's apartheid era AND democratic transition."

What about the Palestinians?

Roelf Meyer is a patriotic South African who has distinguished himself in the various roles he has served in. He is well qualified to execute his new role as South Africa’s Ambassador to the United States.

The single biggest turncoat in Afrikaner history (perhaps with the exception of Piet de Wet) was appointed by President Ramaphosa as South Africa's ambassador to the United States. 😂 Roelf Meyer even admitted during a TV interview a few years ago that he is a liar, saying that politicians like himself sometimes make promises to their constituencies, knowing very well that they will not keep their promises. According to him, it's fine if he does it, because that's simply what politicians do. Ramaphosa himself said of Meyer (who was chief negotiator for the NP during the negotiations of the 1990s) that it was astonishing that Meyer was so excited about the outcome of the negotiations, despite the fact that he gave up everything. After negotiating with the ANC, Meyer joined the ANC. He remains a proud member of the party that actively persecutes his own people.
