Some personal news: I will be joining Plasma @PlasmaFDN.
After a career in TradFi, I was eager to build something better and I believe Plasma will offer me a chance to do just that.
We often joke here about the future of finance. But this is exactly what stablecoins are. To misquote the greatest whitepaper ever, they are a peer-to-peer version of electronic cash that allow online payments to be sent directly from one party to another without going through a financial institution. They are money but with a global, 24/7, near-instant settlement while being programmable and composable.
In simple words they are the future of fiat money.
Beyond crypto, stablecoins already found some nascent real world adoption, mainly in emerging markets today, offering savings and payment options to the unbanked.
But we are simply at the dawn of the stablecoin supercycle: the future is bright.
Yes, the stablecoin supply is growing rapidly (>$80bn added in the last 12 months), but with $235bn outstanding, stablecoins only represent today 1% of the US M2 supply. And having faced years of an uphill battle and a difficult regulatory environment (or lack thereof), clarity and a supportive framework are finally coming.
In the US, stakeholders start seeing stablecoin as a tool to support USD dominance and source demand for US treasuries. Only a couple of years ago, would you have expected a US Secretary of the Treasury to say: "We are going to keep the U.S. the dominant reserve currency in the world, and we will use stablecoins to do that."
Trillions of stablecoins is no longer a question of if: it is now a question of when.
Engineered from the ground up as an EVM Bitcoin sidechain, Plasma will be purposely built for stablecoins. This will include a number of unique features that will be rolled out over time such as custom gas tokens, zero-fee USDT transfers and solutions to allow the confidentiality required for onchain payment solutions to finally take off.
Stablecoins will become the future of money.
Plasma can become the global settlement layer for stablecoins.
Trillions.

@etheraltog It's just I could've sworn I had 2700 total wallet balance with the Tether. Then it swapped and didn't pop my ETH balance. Is there a way to see previous ETH balance of a wallet somehow? I don't think there is.
