Pretty typical message for me to get in my inbox now. I don't talk about this too much, but after we got swatted, my wife and I had a serious conversation about just quitting X and politics altogether. Weighing whether the harassment and threats was worth it. We had just publicly come out as pro-Trump a few weeks before we got swatted. I’m not gonna pretend we were tough about it. We were so scared ya'll... I need you to understand this was NOT some “shake it off” moment for us. I vividly remember the sound of my heart pounding in my ears when we checked on my kids. Seeing them asleep safely and realizing how fucking fast that can get ripped away by one unhinged person with a phone. Erin and I sat there after it was over… not even really talking at first. Just staring at each other like... what are we doing? I remember looking at the kids doors and feeling sick to my stomach and so guilty like… I chose this. I invited this madness into our home. So yeah... we absolutely talked about just quitting, going silent, going back to normal. But we kept coming back to the same thing. If we quit because we were threatened… then the threats worked. And if the threats work on us, they’ll work on the next family. And the next one... and the next one. And eventually, the only people left speaking are the ones who aren’t afraid to be evil... ...and is that the kind of world we want for our kids? A world where normal, decent people are terrorized into whispering truth??? So together, and I remember it so well... Erin and I decided that we were NOT going to teach our children that intimidation, harassment, and evil is how you win an argument with someone you don't like or disagree with. We’re not going to be harassed into silence. Because they don’t come after you because you’re wrong. They come after you because you’re effective. They want you to learn the lesson every decent person who speaks out against the Left eventually gets taught: Stay quiet, or we will make you suffer for it. And we couldn’t shake the thought that if we let that work on us, then it’s not just US who loses... ...it’s everyone watching silently, thinking they’re alone. It’s every NORMAL person who’s just ONE STEP behind where we were in March last year, deciding whether it’s “safe” to say what they believe or not. It’s the dad sitting at his kitchen table with that SAME SICK feeling in his stomach, thinking, I can’t risk it… I’ve got kids. And I get it... God, do I get it. Every day I get a message from someone saying they are scared to speak out and say something for fear of retribution. But at least for this house, we are not going to hand our children a world where the only voices left are the ones who aren't afraid to destroy you... ...just because you don't agree with them.
