Anarchism is “a self-neutralizing, non-ideology in many respects” that fails to “identify the primary contradiction” as imperialism, said Evan Katsounis, a US-Greek anti-imperialist organizer, in an interview with VPol journalist @CallaWalsh. ￭ “The statephobia that is inherent to anarchism” promotes a “notion of an ethical solidarity of all peoples against all regimes,” erasing the distinction between states that are “imperialist, Jewish supremacist, or white supremacist formations,” and the “anti-imperialist state and national movements within the periphery” struggling for liberation through their state-building projects. ￭ “To be across the board in a dogmatic and uncritical way against all states in all circumstances… is an infantile analysis,” said Katsounis, arguing that organizers within the imperial core should focus on “building a strategy around anti-imperialist international principles in support of national liberation movements.” ￭ Full interview will be published on VPol’s Youtube soon.

Today, The Intercept reported that the federal government is ordering Reddit to appear before a grand jury in connection with the anonymous speech of a user who criticized the Trump administration's deportation efforts. Immigration and Customs Enforcement tried to identify a user based in the Pacific Northwest without success. They approached Reddit, demanding identifying information on the user and refusing to specify the posts that caught ICE’s attention. Reddit has not identified the user. Reddit’s own attorneys reviewed the user’s posts for any speech not protected by the First Amendment, and found none. Government critics are not suspects and free speech is not a crime. The First Amendment protects our right to criticize the government anonymously — an American tradition that dates back to the founding. So far, the government hasn’t been able to point to a single Reddit post that’s not protected by the First Amendment. Not one. By putting the administration’s feelings above the First Amendment, government agents are sending a deliberate message to each of us: Don’t criticize us — or else. How we respond to this chilling moment matters. Today, lawmakers from both parties are busy promoting age-verification laws that would force each of us to reveal our identity before we speak online. If lawmakers had their way, the Reddit user would already be standing in court just for expressing his or her beliefs. Who knows how many of us would be hauled up next?

Of course people should “draw a line” but as @OGBlackRedGuard says this isn’t the west wing and the military has been purged pretty clearly at top levels. There has been a crisis every two weeks this year with increasing costs and consequences. Most of them actually fail for this admin but hence both local political and geopolitical desperation. Yet despite all this, resistance has been toothless even by the performative nonsense standards of 2010s. The failure to do anything about this lies on all US political parties and in the structural disorder that has happened to US government in the 20th century.
