Politics should not be a lucrative career. You run, win, serve a couple terms, give somebody else a shot. No six figure salaries, no lobbying giveaways, no gluttony and waste at the people’s expense. You should not get elected, serve 25 and 30 and 40 years and die worth tens of millions of dollars you accumulated. That is parasitism and corruption, not service. You run for office because you want to serve the people, not have a shot at sucking their blood.

Many of the most active civil rights organizers in the South were Black farmers who owned their own free and clear land and homes, pastors, undertakers. and professionals serving their community for a reason. Dr. T.R.M Howard, MLK, C.O. Chinn, and R.F. Williams didn’t work for white folks, so they couldn’t be fired and had time to dedicate to the movement. If you were a sharecropper or factory worker renting a home from a white person and tried to do that shit you’d be jobless and homeless the next day. If your wife or daughter worked in their houses they’d be kicked out. If they had a mortgage on your land or house they’d foreclose on it. If you got anything from them they’d snatch it from under you, and make you suffer, and tell others not to hire or rent to you or give you credit. You have land, you got food.

At the same time that the war against Iran is ongoing and must be stopped, DC itself is under military occupation by National Guard since August 2025 and Trump has stated they will not leave until 2029. They have created a "safe and beautiful taskforce" with all the Federal law enforcement agencies that is terrorizing local Black communities. Where local police should be responding to the needs of the community, these Federal agents have subjected the people to abuse and violence, including the recent killing of Julian Bailey by US Marshalls. This state of siege is made possible because DC has been denied statehood and the rightful authority to govern its own affairs, we must change this- FREE DC! I had some great conversations with two amazing local community members here in DC, NeeNee @neeneetay and Melani @MelaniNDouglass , that have caused me to reflect on my work here and the ways that I can be of service in strengthening the connections between this struggle and the concerns and struggles facing the local communities in Washington DC. My efforts here have had impacts on the local community and its people, and it is my desire not to harm but to work in communication, to lift up and to contribute what strength I can to the ongoing struggle for rights and freedom which this community has been engaged in for years. I will be engaging continuously on these issues going forward and encourage others like myself who have not yet done so to work to connect to and advance their struggles in common along with the communities in which they are taking place.

The Black middle/professional class is precarious because so much of it is tied to government employment and nonprofits. Teaching, social work, nursing, civil service, etc., that stuff ultimately depends on white folks acting right and not cutting shit to the bone. That’s a neocolonial relationship.

There are only 8k white people in the US with the last name Washington. Turns out so many freedmen adopted the name Washington that white people were incentivized to change theirs. A lot apparently shortened theirs to “West”.

White Jeffersons shortened their names to Jeffries and Jepson. Most Jeffersons disappeared between 1880 and 1930. Also Washington is already an *extremely* rare surname for white people to begin with. They all come from some shithole in Northern England.
