Carlos Mendoza, on Freddy Peralta, said the two walks with two outs in the 6th "ended up costing the game there." That led to Brooks Raley entering. The Cubs countered with Carson Kelly, who homered. Were you all OK with Mendoza pulling Peralta at that point (at 93 pitches)?

This is facts and nobody (rightfully) wants to hear this but the Mets were 89-91 wins at all the major sportsbooks. Sure it’s not 100% the way to rate a GM but it’s a fair look at what the roster’s overall talent level and past performance indicated for 2026. Soto being hurt should not cripple a team like this. Stearns can catch flack… but every single player being completely awful at the dish at the same time isn’t because they all s*ck. They are all at the plate and hacking regardless of the situation, with complete disregard for their previous at bats in the game. This is what your manager and the coaches are paid to hover over and… for lack of a better word “manage”. The longer Stearns sticks with Mendoza the more I find it appropriate to go after Stearns. Gutting the coaching staff while sparing Mendoza last season might have been intended to appear as solidarity from the front office and their skipper. But what it did was neuter him in the eyes of the spectator and more importantly, in the eyes of the players. It was Stearns saying: why fire him? He’s not in charge of anything. It wasn’t his failure. And if it wasn’t the manager who let 2025 slip away that meant it was the player’s fault… which is why we have all the new faces yet worse results. Sooner or later Cohen is going to want a scalp and if Stearns doesn’t act on Mendoza soon, he will be the one who gets the grief.
