Are the Mets back?? Reacting live to New York’s first sweep of the season, three victories over the Tigers where the Mets won in different ways. As Juan Soto put it postgame, this team has a “young core” here… youtube.com/live/VWihILBYd…

Setting up today's Speaking of the Mets stream right now. I'll post that here in a few. In the meantime... What's your biggest takeaway from this sweep for the Mets? Yes, it's against the Tigers and a bigger test is looming with the Yankees, but as Mendoza said postgame, there was a lot to like with the way the Mets won these three games to start this week.

The Mets have their first sweep of the season. New York put up nine runs with five homers this afternoon to beat the Tigers. Ewing and Benge continue to provide a spark. Soto shows his foot feels fine. Power throughout the order. McLean shoved after the three-run shot he gave up in the first for the W. Other than Bichette, everybody in the order was getting in on the action. Next up for the Mets ... the Yankees are in town for the first half of the Subway Series.

The Mets have swatted five home runs in a span of six innings this afternoon. A.J. Ewing, Brett Baty, Mark Vientos, Juan Soto and Marcus Semien Vientos nearly hit a second homer as well in the 7th. Semien's blast here in the 8th was high up the foul pole in left.

Mets erupting on offense for six runs over these last three innings. Ewing's first career homer. Baty went the other way for a homer of his own. Soto RBI single after a Benge SB. Then Vientos went deep as well. Bichette and Senger are the only starters who haven't reached safely yet today.

Tigers took a 3-0 lead over the Mets in the top of the first on a Gage Workman three-run homer off Nolan McLean. McLean's first pitch sweeper hung right over the heart of the plate with two outs and two on. Workman drilled it the other way.

Francisco Lindor is “getting better” and “showing signs of healing,” Carlos Mendoza says. Still no timetable, though. He’s not close to returning. The Mets need to let his injury heal and he’s going through strengthening before he eventually starts his running progression.

Carson Benge showed his maturity tonight, flushing plays and staying in this game to come up big in clutch time with the walk-off knock in the 10th. Live talking about Benge, the Baby Mets and Juan Soto’s injury update right now on Speaking of the Mets: youtube.com/live/dyd1299x1…

It's a walk-off win for the Mets. Carson Benge wins it with a walk-off single up the middle in the 10th to plate A.J. Ewing. Now, the focus shifts back to Juan Soto, who exited this game a few innings after fouling a ball off his right ankle. More to come...

In case you missed it earlier in the game, here’s the SNY replay of Juan Soto fouling a ball off his right ankle in the third. Soto stayed in the game, hit again in the sixth, but was removed for a pinch hitter in a big spot in the seventh.

The good news for the Mets: Bo Bichette just tied this game with an RBI single in the seventh inning The bad news: Juan Soto is out of the game with an apparent injury. MJ Melendez pinch hit in Soto's spot. Soto fouled a ball off his ankle earlier in this game...

Latest on Francisco Alvarez, who suffered a right meniscus tear last night and needs surgery. Once again, the Mets' starting catcher will spend a significant chunk of time on the injured list... youtube.com/watch?v=82zFqc…

Francisco Alvarez will have surgery on his knee, Carlos Mendoza says. The hope is that it’ll be 6 to 8 weeks out, but he doesn’t want to speculate. They’ll need to see what they have during the procedure.
