More from Carlos Mendoza on Francisco Alvarez:
Alvarez would’ve kept playing and pushed through if it was a regular season game. No sense in doing that tonight, of course.
Alvarez had a scheduled off day tomorrow, so his next game would be on Saturday.
Max Goodman@MaxTGoodman
Francisco Alvarez came out of today’s game with a tight back. It was precautionary, Carlos Mendoza said.

@Confortorosario It depends. Either way, we’ll hear from Mendoza after the game.

@MaxTGoodman How long does it take to get injury news from the team in Spring Training? Thanks!

Kodai Senga's line tonight against the Astros: 4 IP, 0 R, 3 H, 4 K, 1 BB
Senga has a 1.86 ERA over three starts this spring (2 ER over 9 2/3 IP) with 11 strikeouts.
Senga touched 97.3 mph with his fastball tonight, a pitch that's been up to 99 mph this spring. All encouraging signs from the right-hander.

Here's a look into Mark Vientos' headspace this spring ... from Vientos himself:

Mark Vientos bounced into a double play to end the Mets' three-run fifth inning.
Vientos is now 1-for-27 (.037) at the plate in Grapefruit League play this spring.

Carlos Mendoza on Mark Vientos last night: "He’s going to be a big player for us. He’s going to be a big bat. We’re counting on him. I’m pretty confident that we’re going to get a really good version from Mark Vientos." nj.com/mets/2026/03/w…

Francisco Alvarez was removed from tonight's game in the top of the fourth inning. Jose Aular entered in his spot as a pinch hitter.
On the Mets' lineup card this morning, Alvarez was scheduled to play all nine innings tonight.
Alvarez struck out swinging in his first AB. He was behind the plate catching Kodai Senga for the first three innings on defense.

Mets notes from Carlos Mendoza in West Palm Beach:
- Bo Bichette will start at shortstop tomorrow. He could be the backup SS when the season begins, so the Mets want to give him some reps there
- Kodai Senga will start tonight and then hang back in PSL when the Mets break camp to pitch one more time before his regular season debut
- Ronny Mauricio was optioned to AAA because he needs every day reps. Obviously he wouldn't get that on the Mets' bench
- Nolan McLean will pitch next on Monday at Mets camp. He'd then be lined up to pitch Game 2 of the regular season (Saturday) if he pitches five days later — Mendoza said the Mets have an idea on how their rotation will line up to begin the season, but he isn't ready to announce anything yet

Mets lineup in West Palm Beach tonight is pretty close to what we’ll see on Opening Day.
Francisco Lindor, SS
Juan Soto, LF
Bo Bichette, 3B
Jorge Polanco, 1B
Luis Robert Jr., CF
Brett Baty, RF
Marcus Semien, 2B
Mark Vientos, DH
Francisco Alvarez, C
Kodai Senga is starting with Craig Kimbrel and Luis Garcia in the ‘pen.

Sean Manaea today in Jupiter @ MIA: 4 IP, 0 H, 0 BB, 0 R, 4 K (52 pitches)
The left-hander's fastball velocity is still down. Manaea averaged 88.3 mph today and topped out at 89.9 mph.
88.3 mph is lower than Manaea's average FB velo in his first two starts of the spring ... and it's 3.4 mph slower than his average (91.7) during the regular season last year.
English

Here's Bo Bichette's 104.2-mph double into the left-field corner to score two runs off Sandy Alcantara.
Tyrone Taylor and Marcus Semien, who scored on the play, both singled earlier in the inning.

Bo Bichette drives in two with a double off of Sandy Alcantara!
