@goalkeepersdiff And they won it in a second replay on a rainy night, terrible pitch and Bobby Moore went in goal when Fester got injured. Moore saved a pen from Bernard I think, but he scored the rebound.

Gordon Banks often rated this penalty save from Geoff Hurst higher than his famous World Cup save against Pelé from 1970. It kept the aggregate scores level and earned Stoke City a replay, which they duly won before going on to the lift the League Cup in 1972.

What's not to love here. Belgium's Armand Seghers makes a save against the Netherlands back in 1960 wearing his trademark hat in front of square goalposts against a backdrop of smartly dressed spectators, including some with the best seats in the house.

@iManc_ @AndyBodfish Yes and no. The original shirts were proving to be unsuitable in the Spanish sun. In the Germany game, Mariner and a few others wanted a change of shirt because theirs were soaked with sweat but the only replacements were the original version of shirt.

@AndyBodfish All the kits were cobbled together in the factory overnight. Great designs for their time it the company was a Mickey Mouse outfit.

Following on from yesterday's news about Tony Godden, we've just learned that Borislav Mihaylov, Bulgaria's 1994 World Cup goalkeeper and wig promoter, passed away today.

@goalkeepersdiff Absolutely does, I did used to wonder as he was the only keeper wearing anything like them back in the day. Very under rated goalkeeper

Sad to hear of the passing of Tony Godden, a stalwart of the great West Bromwich Albion side of the late 70s/early 80s. A goalkeeper who was fond of a red jersey, helped in part by the Baggies' yellow and green away kit.
