Why do some interactions just feel great? To find out, I wrote a 3000-word essay on deconstructing the craft of interaction design through metaphors and examples. rauno.me/craft/interact…

⭐️Toolglass/Magic Lenses. The Cedar team uses two input devices at once to control overlay tool palettes (visual clipboard, magnifiers, &c). Worth it for intro alone, which shows inspiration from tools in many other domains! 1994. /cc @unkai youtube.com/watch?v=NbMiNg…

@0xca0a @dan_abramov Fair enough, that doesn't seem too different from the other rules of hooks!

@hyper_text @dan_abramov in my case that would mostly be for mutating view nodes, which is always static. there's no need for rest spread.

is there is library on npm that does what useRefs does? i really don't care about rules of hooks or breaking rules in general — the number is fixed. just don't want to type out 8 repetitive lines just for a bunch of references.

@0xca0a @dan_abramov I think the pain inflicted by the edge cases would out weigh the usefulness const [ref1, ...otherRefs] = useRefs() // infinite loop 😳

@dan_abramov the iterator solution is really clever imo. i have never used iterables myself but i'll take it. twitter.com/_pier/status/1… i often use tons of refs and i don't want it to stretch code by that much.

@0xca0a Mad scientist mode on: useRefs = () => ({ next: () => ({ done: false, value: useRef(), }), [Symbol.iterator]: function () { return this; } }); Use as: conts [a,b] = useRefs();

@0xca0a @mrdoob @sompylasar It's understandable that some will always opt to create their own abstractions, especially graphics/game devs coming from C++. As long as they can appreciate that NASA / Tesla / Apple etc choose three.js not out of sheer stupidity

@mrdoob @sompylasar right, essentially they're against ... webgl abstractions that have a scene layout (?) i don't even know anymore. my take away is, graph structures bad, THREE-Group bad, THREE-Object3D bad. nesting them very bad. 😵‍💫

@0xca0a it's way too easy to trip up on this with Vue and v3 made it worse. If you have `nodeRef = ref(node)` now nodeRef.value.children[3].nested.prop` is reactive too which causes havoc on any graph structure. Just wish 'ref' was shallow by default, instead shallow refs are discouraged

somebody asked for 5000 chairs on a screen? happy to announce that we shipped some significant performance improvements to the @archilogic editor - that can now also handle really large office floors at 60 FPS

Why does Apple keep turning off location services for Chrome? It's super-annoying (like I'm sure it's supposed to be).
