They always use defensible excuses for the indefensible
tobi lutke@tobi
This is the point. Same will happen in all countries that will make social media age restrictions. “Won’t someone think of the children” is usually not about the children

For too long trolls & cowards have posted hate online anonymously. This is a good move.

Just seen this: 'Adults can still access social media through age checks like facial recognition, digital IDs, passports and credit cards.' So it's not just a ban for kids, it's ID-gating half of the internet.
English

I've seen a lot of commentary on the under 16 social media ban being about controlling the narrative or child safety etc. it has almost zero to do with it. The bans don't work at all, kids will always find a way around it like they did in Australia.
This is about easily identifying every single Internet user and scaring them into submission, especially the adults. The only way to determine if someone is under 16 is to force everyone to identify themselves. That is the end game.

I have begun work on my weekly newsletter that I will be mailing out to my English brethren due to their internet restrictions getting ready to take effect. I am trying to make it in MS paint as I am not sure that the government will allow the natives to access the internet on anything running an operating system beyond windows 95. Just want to play it safe!

@LukeHarnell @AriWasserman I’m gonna miss seeing you guys online in a few months when they take y’all’s internet away. Poor bloke.

How I be going to the store to get that milk and bread for the children…

This car has bulletproof windows with a gun port. You can shoot out, but nothing gets in.
English

@imemethere4 @AriWasserman Highly ignorant. Unlike in other sports, if a team sucks they actually get demoted to 2nd division. They can sign Messi but if the team sucks enough it gets demoted, Messi included and won’t play in 1st Div. Every team at every professional team has earned their professional stat
English

@PalleRosso @AriWasserman Wouldn’t know, wouldn’t care. I assume they are like the US and soccers their like 12th most popular sport. Glad your country beat 3rd world country most people couldn’t find on a map!
English

@imemethere4 @AriWasserman No. My country beat Tunisia which has a slightly larger population. Tell me, how are the most populous countries doing at football? China, India, US, Indonesia?
English

@P17Forza @PolymarketSport Yeah I bet a lot on fanduel and underdog. Had no idea polymarket was ran so different.
English

@imemethere4 @PolymarketSport That's why it's so popular + polymarket is unregulated. You can send millions from your crypto wallet to polymarket wallet and money will appear in seconds. Since you aren't familiar with crypto, I understand why it would look like pain in the ass dealing with big money.
English

@PalleRosso @AriWasserman I bet your team was one of the shitty ones that had a tie with some country that has like 30,00 people on an island somewhere huh?
English

@P17Forza @PolymarketSport Ahh okay this makes hella sense. I didn’t realize that as I don’t bet on polymarket. I stand corrected then!
English

@imemethere4 @PolymarketSport Polymarket is built on crypto. This bet is literally on chain. Someone lost that money. That amount went to the winning side of bettors
English

@saybrook_22 @AriWasserman That’s cool. Maybe they should do a better job and not let teams in like Spain and Brazil and others that just kind of seem like they suck.
English

@imemethere4 @AriWasserman Statistically, it’s a very high-variance sport due to the low scores and the ability of weak teams to load defenders into the box. This unpredictable nature is part of what makes it beloved. But has little to do with it not being difficult
English

@AriWasserman Yeah I wrestled in college, but what would I know? I’m sure I wouldn’t be able to handle how hard soccer is 🤣
English

@AriWasserman Because soccer is really not that hard of a sport despite so much of the world acting like it is. But I guess that’s what some people like about it. A bunch of nobodies can practice hard for a few years and then compete with these supposed powerhouses.
English

@userguesA @PolymarketSport You really think so? I don’t mess with crypto but I guess that could be an option. I still think this is bs for clicks and promotion.
English

I’m not surprised that a socialist sport like soccer rewards a point to the teams for a lame 0-0 tie. Kind of like the offside rule that literally only serves to slow the game down and make it more fair to the less physically capable team.#Worldcup2026
