I don't know anything about soccer, so forgive me for my ignorance, but how is it humanly possible for Cape Verde to assemble a team that can prevent Spain from scoring a goal?
@AriWasserman Because soccer is really not that hard of a sport despite so much of the world acting like it is. But I guess that’s what some people like about it. A bunch of nobodies can practice hard for a few years and then compete with these supposed powerhouses.
I know this is a stupid American take... but every time I watch soccer, I cannot figure out the limited substitutions rule. Look how tired these players are. Just let them substitute. Think of how slow basketball would be if the same players had to play 48 minutes straight.
I’ve seen a million videos of people from around the world having the time of their lives enjoying Mexican and American culture for the World Cup.
I have yet to see a single video from Canada.
Where is the footage?
Is fun illegal up there?
Curacao, ranked 82nd in the world, have Germany, ranked 10th, on the ropes... but let's stop for a "hydration break" in an air-conditioned stadium.
What an absolute farce.
Hiya. I am in Ivory Coast covering AFCON for The Athletic. I’ll be travelling around the country a bit. Think it’s important to show the place. Some comment will follow. As will picture content. Starting with this. The red soil of West Africa. (Yes, red; no, I haven’t had a wee)
@KathLBC@tsnjamesduthie It’s good for every team except the Swiss. It means Canada now have got to beat Qatar, and no matter what happens they will face a Swiss team who have something to play for. A net positive for Canada, but adds alot of pressure on the next game. Biggest in Canadian history.
@pizzamitch1@DeanWinche9osj@kylekirms Not getting involved with the US vs Europe bullshit. But football is about way more than being an elite athlete. And the US don’t have the best athletes at many many sports, so your argument falls down immediately. You don’t even win the Ryder cup very often.
@DeanWinche9osj@kylekirms@LukeHarnell Typical europoor. Wouldn’t want our best athletes taking over the world stage in that sport too. Hey, you’ll always have the activity of darts.
@kylekirms It’s not just an athletic game, there’s much more to it, endurance being one thing. Some of the most intense games are 2 teams tired and slugging it out in extra time desperate to avoid a penalty shoot out. The drama is like nothing else.
And now they make a couple substitutions... and the fresh legs come in and are CLEARLY faster than everyone else. Why wouldn't we want to watch the entire game with fresh legs??? Would that not be infinitely more fun?
