Palm Beach Currumbin SHS is an excellence school for many sports and two Suns' draftees came via it.

Bit of angst over the #AFLDraft and Nthn Academies. Looking at 2023 AFL lists, Nthn state clubs had approx 23% of their lists drafted from the clubs home state. Average for other 14 clubs approx 60%, over 65% for Vic clubs. That’s a significant gap. (1 of 3)

@mcnamkau @WarrnamboolCity @AFL In other regions nationally, generally one quality facility provides the momentum and inspiration for other local clubs to advocate for better facilities. Ballarat has delivered upgrades of that nature across all their ovals as an ongoing program.

@jakeanson @WarrnamboolCity @AFL Hmmm! The WCC could have spread the spending over a number of community grounds. However, they went chasing an AFL pre-season round. All eggs in the one basket. WFNC is very grateful. I’m pretty sure the ladies at SWFNC could use some upgraded facilities. Etc.

The AFL award was for community facilities that provide quality change rooms, lighting and an oval surface that promotes more use and growth of footy - particularly female football. It has nothing to do with the national AFL competition.

@7NewsBrisbane @JoelDry7 The concept of Albion Park Raceway being moved for community or mixed use development has been in the works for at least a decade. I think this proposal will be good for the racing industry as well as community users who will benefit from more accessible park facilities

@dennisroberts A strong similarity between the two - both are the largest cities in their nations founded in the 20th Century. Both have high % of residents who have relocated, and are trying to build civic capital. As they mature I hope their residents proudly self-identify with their clubs.

@jakeanson Perhaps not dissimilar to Gold Coast, Vegas was a graveyard for sporting teams. But they took a position that tourist visitation could be morphed into successful sporting franchises.
