🧵I've coached for 24 years. I've spent a good chunk of that time coaching poorly, without knowing it. Some of my worst coaching was done when I thought I knew it all. My best advice to any coach (& things I wish I knew): 1. Don't take on too much responsibility too early....

Low level disruption is the kryptonite of teaching and learning. School leaders must prioritise supporting teachers to eliminate it from classrooms.

The debate around isolation rooms has resurfaced, but if we set aside differing opinions for a moment, I think we can all agree, whether we work in education or are parents that every student deserves a disruption-free classroom as a basic standard. There are many ways to manage disruptive behaviour, and using a separate room for a short period is typically considered a last resort. All too often we take extreme stories and believe this must be the norm.

2026 LANGUAGE EXAM: I shared this series of lessons last year, but I’ve gone back and revised them to reflect the changes to the AQA English Language exam for 2026. Covers both papers. Use/chuck/change as you see fit! @Team_English1 dropbox.com/scl/fo/o6vw4t9…

🪜 This one-pager explains why explicit guidance outperforms self-discovery models in learning. Based on the research of Kirschner, Clark, and Sweller, it summarises the benefits of feedback and support provided by guided instruction. 🔁 REPOST and get a free HQ copy here: jamieleeclark.com/graphics

I'm proud of everything I've done in education, but today I finished filming the last of our new units, and I'm pretty sure Carousel Teaching is the best thing I've ever made. I'm knackered already, and there's a lot still to go. But I'm PROUD. carousel-learning.com/teaching

Check out this updated model of the "Simple Model of Teaching": * initially crafted by @DTWillingham * redrafted by @olicav, * annotated here by @PepsMccrea, @Josh_CPD, and @ollie_lovell Our blogger always says: "don't just DO THIS THING, instead, THINK THIS WAY." This model helps teachers THINK about what to DO.

👇 Since introducing these one-pagers in my school in 2022, I’ve seen teachers’ engagement with evidence informed ideas sky-rocket. Like in any school, our teachers are time-poor, so distilling important ideas into an easily digestible format offers a practical solution. Here are 7 ways one-pagers have supported our teachers:

In the last couple of years, I've seen half a dozen schools which are absolutely smashing it in terms of improving behaviour and standards. They are *winning* for students that were failed for decades. What's interesting, of course, is that you won't have heard of any of them.
