"If we're going to rail against equalization at the federal level, then we can't keep doing the same thing to our municipalities." Last night, Council approved our property tax bylaw, complying with the UCP government's order to issue their largest property tax hike in our city's history. Despite our Council team approving only a 1.2% tax increase for city services like police and fire, Calgarians will see an increase nearly ten times that. **You need to know that nearly half of your property tax bill goes to the province, in an equalization formula described here by the Premier.** The UCP has hiked property taxes by 57% in four years. Their latest 21% increase represents about $339 more per household. Chestermere and Airdrie will pay even more than that. By contrast, Edmonton homeowners will only pay $154 more. Our Council team cares about affordability. We will continue to push for responsible spending while investing in core services like safety and infrastructure. Let's work together for a fair deal for municipalities and deliver transparency for where property tax dollars actually go.

This is so sad in a rich province and country. A rich province that throws around money to private investors, and pet projects, but won't allow disabled to receive gifts without clawing back. It's not like they are getting gifts from Saudis or UAE. Danielle is cruel.

A mother, on income support, is disabled, but has repeatedly denied AISH(Enhanced income for disabled persons). On a 2yr wait list for subsidized housing, her funds eaten away, deadbeat dad out east. Food bank helps 2X a month. We're not even speaking about field trips, transportation, or utilities. Her children, when they eat protein, usually eat canned or processed meat. I provide her some funds, but have to do this under the table, cash in hand, as our glorious @YourAlberta cuts her off if they catch her getting funds via e-transfers. It's disgusting. And this province worries about license plates, make-believe referendums, and all that other ideological crap as opposed to real governance. In my opinion. #abpoli

Live tweeting thread on the ACORN town hall speaking out against the transition from AISH to ADAP. About 50 people have showed up at today’s town hall to express their anger and frustration. /1

#ableg #abpoli WTAF?? Alberta Rural communities now need non-profits to save medical services. Why? Because Danielle Smith gave MH Care ~$1,000,000,000 for faulty masks and dangerous kids meds instead Choices Matter. Danielle chooses her pal Sam Mirache over Albertans.

Just heard a dad refer to today as a PA day. No bud, it's not. Your kids are off for a Christian holy day. So when you complain about all the PA days, remember that you are the one adding days. Just a reminder, teachers do not set the school calendar.

Alberta is indeed expanding its “book ban” to all public libraries and putting the Muni Affairs Minister in charge of that. They will be making 16+ areas for racy images. The premier previously told me this would only be for libraries co-located in schools. #ableg #cdnpoli

@UCPCaucus You guys must have all got elected just after falling off the turnip wagon. Did you sustain head injuries and are no longer capable of reading? Teachers already teach kids HOW to think. It’s mandated in every Alberta curricula. Try picking up a curriculum document and READ IT

One step towards improvement is acknowledging the current environment and demanding better from our provincial govts and HC administrators. Proud to be a co-author of this national position statement on the issue: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/41793640/ 5/5
