What is a movie that "broke" you so hard you can only watch it once, but you would still recommend it to everyone?

@daveweigel I guess it won’t be the case with this switcheroo, but Lordy Brits recall their currency a lot. Much of the time a change means that the pre-existing notes have a time limit. That Turner might not work in a few years.

It’s the least important issue on earth but I’d love it if we switched up the money with different Great Americans every decade. Jackson’s fine but I want to buy coffee with an Edgar Allan Poe $20

Too bad. I really liked the British practice of rotating different eminent people on their bank notes. (“They took Churchill off” is getting the coverage but he’s the only politician on the money rn. Got a crisp Turner 20 in my foreign currency box.) politico.eu/article/uk-ban…

It’s true: After an eventful year writing Starting Point for @BostonGlobe, I’m heading back to @Slate to be a senior politics writer covering *gestures at all this.* I’m psyched to get started, so drop me a line at ian.philbrick@slate.com
Katie Rayford@katie_rayford

We're so excited @IanPrasad is joining Slate as our new politics writer. He wrote The Morning at the NYT, Starting Point at the Boston Globe, and once upon a time interned and freelanced right here. Welcome (back), Ian! Read more here: slate.com/slate-welcomes…

A couple of months ago my hubby, who’s bought a newspaper from this kiosk for decades, emailed a local newspaper to ask them to cover this story. Instead, they asked him to write it. He’s never written an article but gave it a go. Now the story’s everywhere. Quite proud of him

Yesterday, we went down to Brixton tube station for the last ever day of Brixton News, one of the capital's last specialist news stands. TfL are raising the rent on the unit Pritesh Patel and his brother run from £40,000 a year to £125,000 a year, something they cannot afford.

With the closure of the WaPo book review, "no one who has anything to do with books remains employed at the paper" and the (awful) NYT is the last newspaper book review. Reminder: @curaffairs takes book reviews, and your subscriptions will help us build a books section!

So apparently @AmericanAir considers them BREAKING A WHEEL a part of normal wear and tear. It's been a week of me trying to follow their claim process only to get an automated reply that they denied my claim & in person staff say they can't help. AA how can I get my wheel fixed?

@ManchesterMill @reformparty_uk @ElectoralCommUK Holly Ulyett, a Gorton resident, told @ManchesterMill she received the letter from the postman at 10am this morning. “I thought: ‘oh, this is a bit strange.” She says: “It’s very obviously trying to trick people who are a bit older, who are susceptible, who think it’s real.”

Quick one @GoodwinMJ because I know you’re big on law and order: why are you sending out fake letters that pretend to be from a local woman but are printed by the London printers used by @reformparty_uk? They make no mention of being produced by your campaign, which is illegal.

After three years off this platform, I'm back on because of what's happened at @washingtonpost and what we're trying to do about it at @CityCast_DC. We're going to start hiring journalists immediately to make sure DC continues to have great, useful, ambitious local journalism...

The Washington Post cuts would be a tad more tolerable if the people who ran it into the ditch over the past three years were given the sack along with journalists covering sports, books, foreign, and metro. But no, Will Lewis, survives.

What's the case for maintaining your Washington Post subscription? Seriously, a lesser newspaper in every way for the same price. Convince me.

@Jacob_Brogan This sucks so hard. What a great section with amazing writers, a broad range of books covered, and really fun non-review book pieces. (I loved the writers’ home tours!) And a treat to be edited so elegantly by you and Nora.

I'm heartbroken by the Post's decision to eliminate its books coverage. The actual fact of my job aside, the existence of a standalone books section felt like a real celebration of a culture of literacy, dialogue, and even debate. It was a place to discover and celebrate.
