@TiroTypeworks @davelab6 @KhaledGhetas @abdullaharif The OFL certainly allows an optional donation option, and that's a nice way to do it. It just needs to be clear (esp. to those whose understanding of English is limited) that the donation is not necessary to download or use the fonts.

I make the most commercially unviable fonts, but people seem to like them. I wonder if this is because they are free? Anyway, I’m not complaining, I quite enjoy the fact that I can make whatever fonts I want and not worry about selling them.

@OhBendy @pgconstable Sorry - no - and I didn't see them in a quick glance through my research materials. But keep in mind that I was mainly collecting examples of letters that were alraedy identified rather than searching for ones that weren't.

@jvgtype @MarkFonts Do SIL fonts with character variants include lookup type 3 enumerated substitutes? My understanding was that these were the aspect of cv features that some browser makers were reluctant to implement.

interested if people have info on using it—I was considering adding the character variant feature to my design, along with stylistic sets. I haven’t been able to deploy cv in a browser.

How many multi-weight font families are there that provide BOTH single-story a/g glyphs AND two-story a/g glyphs (and I mean in the same font; e.g. both in upright, as alts)? Bonus point if they're open-source...

@thejourneyler I had fun making one of these a while ago, but don't really use it. I kern the same way most designers do: avoiding it as much as possible. Most kerning time lately has been spent getting tools to handle kerning data well when converting formats. github.com/andyclymer/ker…

Is Italics required in Indic scripts like Devanagari, Kannada? Italics is so non native for Indic scripts. Applying Italics does not look well. It reminds the tweet on Italics in Adobe Myriad fonts of Bengali and Devanagari by @alolita twitter.com/alolita/status…

I'm happy to announce that Adobe #Kannada now has Italics! fonts.adobe.com/fonts/adobe-ka… Thank you, @AdobeType for this opportunity! Kannada design: Erin McLaughlin (@HindiRinny) Latin design: Robert Slimbach Engineering and direction: Paul Hunt (@pauldhunt) Consultation: Fiona Ross

@hhpapazian @TiroTypeworks @Erin_Type Although, if you were adding Latin to non-Latin it should supplement the non-Latin. That restricts the Latin fonts you could use as a base. For truly multilingual Web projects I have only managed four Latin fonts that are suitable. And even those four aren't complete.
