@BriannaWu I understand. My husband did this and over the years has found, restored and lovingly worked on cars that were on the posters of his childhood bedroom.

I often get criticized from my love of Porsches, like it’s a hobby for rich people. But I think people don’t understand I actually restored these cars - something I learned to do growing up in Mississippi. First of all of Boxster is not exactly an expensive car. You can get one for $8000. The wheels? I spent a month hand sanding all the rust off them and then I modified a Craig’s List oven in my garage to bake them with electrostatic powder coat. Those headlights used to be milky white, and I sanded them and restored them. The interior of the car used to be trashed blue, and I replaced every single piece with red from junkyards. I spent an entire weekend underneath the car fixing an oxygen sensor problem, so the gasoline runs correctly rich. The seats are from a next generation Boxster. The rear speakers are parts i scavenged from a trashed 986.2 I found in a junkyard and wired in. I’ve probably spent about $22,000 total on this car over the last 6 years, including purchasing it, which is a lot less than I would guess the people criticizing me spent on their cars. There’s nothing more redneck than finding a trashed car and fixing it up.

Excited to be at the DC premiere of the new documentary WAR GAME, which simulates an insurrection on January 6th, 2025 led by a Mike Flynn character who foments a rebellion in the military. Participants and advisors included Gov. Heidi Heitkamp, Gov. Steve Bullock, Gen. Wesley Clark, William Kristol (as a Bannon/Stone like advisor), Elizabeth Neumann, Lt. Col. Alex Vindman and several others. A good glimpse into what may happen next and the factors that may shape our response. Q+A panel hosted by Kara Swisher. Thought provoking film — watch this before the election. A project of @jgoldbeck of VetVoice Foundation.

“Friday has been a dark day for freedom. In eastern Ukraine, Russian forces are on the verge of taking the city of Avdiivkaafter a months-long fight, thereby bringing closer Vladimir Putin’s goal of fully annexing yet another Ukrainian province: Donetsk. And in a Russian penal colony north of the Arctic Circle, Russia’s foremost dissident, Alexei Navalny, was pronounced dead at age 47. I am filled with anger and despair as I write these words. Not because I am surprised by the Russian president’s villainy — that, by now, is sadly well-established. But because I am shocked and dismayed that America, the bastion of freedom, might abandon the fight against Putin’s evil. House Republican leaders are giving every indication that they are willing to reward Navalny’s killer by cutting off Russia’s Ukrainian victims from further U.S. aid, thereby making it inevitable that more good people will suffer his fate.” washingtonpost.com/opinions/2024/…

@MGTalksRetail The two customer bases are typically quite different. It's unlikely that there's a big enough overlap between the Walmart loyalists and Costco members. And if the pricing is competitive, the cash back to spend at Walmart is a compelling offer. Interesting one to watch.

This is a smart move by Walmart. Costco Travel is a great perk for members and Amazon doesn't have a similar one (yet) for Prime. My only question is if the cash-back model instead of lower prices like Costco Travel is enough to move the needle. corporate.walmart.com/newsroom/2023/…

I was a teenager in northern Italy during the August 1991 coup. A dead-quiet town suddenly had all their TV sets tuned to events in Moscow. I called my parents back home to ask what the heck was going on… the beginning of the end, it turns out. This feels like that.

I don’t think the steel mill haze was ever quite so bad in the Region that streetlights were needed in the daytime.

@mateovonchicago I think it has something to do with Catholic schools making kids change out of dress shoes, which can scuff up gym floors. And I think I somehow learned this from @RogersParkMan

@Tennesseine I hosted a half day conference. High stakes. Had to be “on,” engaged and engaging. Snuck away and barely made it to my room. Spent hours shivering in the bath trying to recharge. Event a success. Recovery took days. So hard to explain to non-introverts.

I really wish more people understood what it means to be an introvert. Yet another person this week gave me that line: “How can you say you’re an introvert?! You’re so outgoing and charming with everyone when you’re out in public!” Ugh. People, that’s not what it’s about.🤦‍♂️

@profgalloway @byron_auguste @OpptyatWork Come to Indiana to see what happens when this is embraced. Decades long reduction in education funding, attainment, economic mobility and job creation. A more nuanced approach is perhaps needed, but you're banging this drum too loudly.

I was warning about this back in 2005.
Around the same times, big conservative evangelical $ bucks were poured into pop culture products to drive the "Jesus People" movement - notably "Godspell" and "Jesus Christ Superstar" (which had a none-too subtle, noxious anti-Semitic edge.)

Re the #JesusRevolution movie: Lonnie Frisbee played a key role in starting JR; they threw him under the bus for being gay. In 1986, Campus Crusade for Christ's Bill Bright said his Christian World Liberation org was a deceptive "front" to divert from the anti-war movement.
