This is a really important point to make: good county sides build a squad and work with players over many years to create a team. England benefit from all this work and, with four of the side under-23, so will @SomersetCCC for many years. No wonder they have such strong support.

I agree with the Doc (@WG_RumblePants)! This is a little silly. When your audience is relatively small, you try to expand it, not milk it dry. The county needs to ask itself whether it wants a lot of viewers or a few paying viewers.

Ridiculously short sighted by Lancs. The free YouTube channel is their shop window. It’s a massive opportunity to draw in casual fans so that they get excited enough to come along in person (and maybe even become a member and bring other people). What’s happened to the public awareness of cricket in this country since it went behind a paywall in 2005? Are Lancs still a cricket club or are they just another sport-based business that’s out to fleece their fans?

@somersetpodcast @BrxndonT This is a bad idea. As a number of people have made the point this evening, it’s a great marketing tool for what cricket can be & encourage people to grounds. FC cricket is different to football-there are reduced teams and really does tap into the locality of your local county.

@WG_RumblePants A keen cricketer in my youth, the tolls of work et al tore me away. 3 years ago my son began playing cricket & I began watching again - 1st Somerset live stream, 2nd at the ground & now my first all format membership for 20 years! Large part was accessing the live stream for free
