I’ve been seeing these ads all over the subway for weeks and assumed “friend dot com” was a website where you could try to meet new friends. Turns out it’s for a wearable AI device that you can talk to and it responds to you via text. Extremely bleak

Aux parents pris sans transport scolaire pour vos enfants depuis vendredi dernier, prenez 3 minutes pour lire ceci: Le fiasco de Lion électrique était prévisible. Voici un bref résumé de ce scandale de la Coalition-Libérale-Solidaire-Péquiste. Tout part de deux points communs des 4 partis représentés à l’Assemblée nationale: vouloir bien paraître sur le plan environnemental et que l’état dirige plus sur le plan économique. L’idée: que le Québec devienne le premier endroit au monde où tous les enfants vont à l’école en bus électrique, avec des autobus scolaires construits au Québec, par une entreprise hautement financée par les contribuables. Le plan: a) créer un monopole artificiel d’un seul fabricant de bus électriques; b) interdire la vente de bus au diesel, au propane ou à essence dès 2021 et c) obliger que ces bus soient construits au Québec. Le financement: les autobus électriques sont beaucoup plus chers. Grosso modo, en moyenne, 125,000$ pour un bus au diesel versus 350,000$ à 400,000$ pour un bus électrique. Le gouvernement du Québec, avec l’appui des trois partis d’opposition, a décidé de financer environ 150,000$ par autobus via le Programme d’électrification des transports scolaires (PETS). Une autre subvention s’ajoute, jusqu’à environ 20,000$ par borne électrique. En plus de ça, des subventions et des prêts ont été faits à Lion électrique directement, via notamment Investissement Québec et la Caisse de dépôt, pour un total de 245 millions $ supplémentaires. Les problèmes: 1) le système de chauffage fonctionne au mazout sur les bus de Lion, sans système antipollution. Comme l’a révélé le Parti conservateur, ces bus sont parfois plus polluants que les bus au diesel, en émettant plus de certaines particules fines polluantes. 2) l’autonomie trop faible. Au départ, c’était même moins de 100 km. Pas le temps de recharger entre deux runs. Dans les régions éloignées, faut utiliser les vieux bus au diesel pour le rural et concentrer les bus électriques sur les courts trajets des zones plus urbaines. 3) l’achat d’une borne coûte environ 20,000$. Les autobus, surtout en région, dorment dans le stationnement chez le chauffeur. Le transporteur ne sait jamais si le chauffeur sera encore à son emploi l’an prochain. Un trop gros investissement, trop risqué. Faire revenir les bus au garage est parfois aussi très coûteux parce que très éloigné du trajet scolaire. 4) les difficultés mécaniques rencontrées particulièrement pour les bus qui roulaient sur des rangs non-pavés. On ne sait toujours pas clairement pourquoi, mais les bus électriques n’aiment pas trop la poussière et la boue. 5) quand un ennui mécanique survient, les mécaniciens locaux ne veulent pas toucher à ça, de peur notamment de s’électrocuter. Ça coûte parfois jusqu’à 5000$ renvoyer ça par towing chez Lion dans les Laurentides et ça prive le transporteur d’un bus pendant une longue période indéterminée. 6) les voyages scolaires nécessitent des déplacement souvent de plus de 100 km. De nombreuses écoles ont été forcées d’annuler, par exemple, les visites annuelles à l’aquarium de Québec pour des enfants dans Bellechasse ou la participation de l’équipe locale des jeunes joueurs de hockey dans un tournoi de la région voisine. 7) dans certaines région, on a aussi rencontré des difficultés pour installer des bornes de recharges rapides parce que le courant n’est pas suffisamment puissant. 8)devant les coûts exorbitants des bus électriques, de nombreux petits transporteurs scolaires dans nos régions, avec de petites flottes, ce sont mis à vendre à de très gros joueurs, souvent étrangers, ce qui menace de conduire à un oligopole. 1/3
