I write about permitting 'going concern sales' during the corporate insolvency resolution process under the IBC. Going concern sales are prevalent in other jurisdictions and they can be an effective and speedy mechanism for rescuing distressed businesses. vidhilegalpolicy.in/blog/ibc-and-t…

@sohinichat @rishabhm When you have more than a month’s rent as deposit, this won’t work. Because your notice period is still one month. So, at max you don’t pay the last month’s rent. I recently moved cities (BOM -> DEL), and had to rely on owner’s discretion to return the rest of the deposit.

The landlord of the last house I rented in Mumbai never repaid the deposit (2 months rent). His house was returned in pristine shape. His rationale - "Meri marzi, jo ukhaadna hai ukhaad le". I tried to reason with him for a while. But eventually I couldn't follow uo beyond a point because I moved out of the city. Low trust society.

If you are a home owner in any major city in India, pls don't be a chindi person and try and give back as much deposit back to the tenants. Unless the damages are significant. Regular wear and tear of living like spots on the wall, some holes being drilled this is not a reason to deduct unreasonable amounts. I have 2 houses and I don't behave like this. But whenever I rent, I don't understand why home owners want to deduct the maximum out of deposit from the tenant. Very cheap!

Claypot rice with preserved duck and chicken. Michelin guide recommended. Totally worth it. Not strong enough to try eel and frog yet. Although my friend @MeherM says frog is like chicken Steamed salted egg yolk cake, and steamed water chestnut cake. Loved it all!

@sohinichat @BhattRohin @LudditeNed Legally speaking, the bank discharges its duty of holding on to the money till the rightful claimant asks for it. They pass on this duty to the nominee. It’s kind of like the executioner of a will who temporarily takes over the estate of the dead

My two cents on the circular: it is a pink-washing exercise. There is no bar on two people holding a joint account, and people have been doing it. You can, however, not do it as a couple. Second, a nominee has no right over the money in the account. Legal heirs, can still sue.

@ArchaeoNomad If you’re drafting a contract, you can very well add an “interpretation clause” saying that hereinafter every references to the terms “she” or “her” shall include persons of any gender whether male or female or otherwise.

Is it essential to use "he" to denote all genders in the legal parlance in India? I was told this by a legal team of a company we are collaborating with. #Lawyers here, can you shed some light? Thanks.

@ArchaeoNomad 1. This is the ideal but it’s a long term solution, will take resources, etc 2. A walk by an outfit (like yours) which already has the capacity, can kick-start such walks in the mean time, create visibility, etc Basically 1&2 can both co-exist, esp till 1 is ready.

@oitihjya My question is- why then not build the capacities within the communities so that they can lead the tour themselves. And of course consent plays a huge role in this.

#SlumTours can only be ethical if it is led by people living in the slum and the income from it filters down to the benefit of the slum. What do you think?

No this is not a temple made using limestone or granite but actually a Durga Pujo pandal in IT hub Newtown, West Bengal. Supported by HIDCO, the Newtown Sarbojanin Durgatsav in city square ground is managed fully by women staring from the Dhakis to priests to other activities.

Important & horrifying thread - getting your purse stolen in a foreign land (UK) which carried your residence permit etc And having no empathy or help from London police despite clear CCTV footage (including the thief’s car number). @IndiaNetherland @metpoliceuk

The UK is often seen as the pinnacle of the first world. This is a story of how Indian tourists were looted of their identity, in the city of London in 2023. 1/16

I had 4-5 hours to spare in Kolkata. I thought I'd go on a little stroll and grab some food :) It was drizzling. Thankfully, it wasn't hot, but still, quite damp. Didn't dampen my spirits though ;) Here's to a little walk in the city of joy, i mean mishti and doi :D
