Artemis II: AOS with the crew!

The daring spirit of the American people — a historic mission, homeward bound. 🌎 Tonight, our Artemis II astronauts are set to splash down on Earth after their journey around the Moon. 🇺🇸

Has a public figure died with anywhere near this degree of grace and magnanimity in our lifetimes? The only other example that comes to mind is John Paul II. Simply inspirational.

So I will confess that I broke down and cried a little bit when I saw @DouthatNYT’s interview with @BenSasse. While going through cancer treatment, I have had such a strong preoccupation with how it would impact my looks. I have wanted to keep it together and maintain an attractive front as well as I can. I saw Sasse here and it just made me feel how stupid such a petty, vain concern has been when the real fight we’ve been facing is whether my daughters will have to finish growing up without me! (and right now, all signs are positive there, and we’re thanking God!) But this is actually one of the reasons I sent in a couple requests to interview Sasse. Because I’m wondering how much this is a difference between men and women thing and how much it may just be a Christian maturity thing. I’d have some deeper questions too, but I do think the way a Christian who is a husband and father faces cancer may be different than how a wife and mother does. And you would approach stage four in a different spiritual posture than a terminal diagnosis in some ways. Anyway, I just feel like there would be lots for us to talk about!

🚨#BREAKING: Mission Control has officially given the green light for Artemis II to perform its return burn, as the spacecraft prepares to re-enter Earth’s atmosphere after successfully making history with its journey around the Moon.

The third return burn for the Artemis II mission occurred at 2:53pm ET (1853 UTC), refining Orion’s path for atmospheric entry and splashdown. During the maneuver, the spacecraft made precise adjustments to stay on its targeted course home.
