Honestly… this is just pure evil. It’s heartbreaking to even read. I get why people are angry, I am too. But turning it into more violence won’t fix anything. Justice should mean he never gets to live a normal life again, ever. Sitting in a cell for the rest of his life, having to live with what he did every single day… that’s a punishment. And at least it keeps Athena from being turned into some kind of spectacle.

People want fair trials, but they hate wasting time and resources on obvious cases like this.

If a defendant is unfit, they can’t help their lawyer understand the facts from the defendant’s perspective. You know, the defendant, the guy who was actually there. It would be next to impossible to defend someone who can’t participate in their own defense because they’re insane.
Everytime someone commits and egregious crime of national note, conservatives, the same who claim to be ardent constitutionalist run out and advocate for skipping due process. Yet, when we win in Court as conservatives you nod approvingly. When someone you believe is innocent gets criminal counts or cases (Trump) dismissed you nod approvingly. But you throw all that out the window when you believe, with no review of all the evidence other than a brief video clip, that the person should immediately be hung.
People should get a fair trial with a full quiver of available defenses according to the facts. We stopped executing the insane and retarded a long time ago. We also stopped institutionalizing them. We should go back to institutionalizing those whose families can’t keep them under control, but executing them is not the answer.

The whole idea of "incompetent to stand trial" is fucking nonsense. If you're too "incompetent" to understand that you shouldn't butcher an innocent woman on the train, you should die. Period. Arrest, convict, execute. You are not fit to be a part of human society. How many more innocent people must we sacrifice for the sake of coddling and babying the absolute scum of the Earth? NEW: San Francisco judge Linda Colfax has released a man who fatally assaulted an 84-year-old because the prison sentence would have a "poor impact" on him. 25-year-old Antoine Watson was granted probation just two months after he was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and assault. Watson violently assaulted Vicha Ratanapakdee in 2021, which resulted in his death just two days later. He was acquitted of first-and second-degree murder charges and instead convicted of involuntary manslaughter. Colfax says Watson being in prison would have a "poor impact" on him and didn't think he should be there because he "expressed remorse," according to the SF Chronicle. Colfax is accused of hiding details from the jury in an apparent effort to help Watson escape prison time. Infuriating and evil.
